Every time on Cricbuzz, when Dhoni gets out, I see the sentence, "Is that the death blow for Chennai?" I think Dhoni's importance is overestimated. After all we have Sir Jaddu :hail: who won us the match today. :csk:

Yes...but he has been one of the most important cogs in the CSK machine for the past few years. It includes/included a foreign opener in either hussey, hayden or fauf du plesis, a bunch of foreign allrounders and more importantly the indian contingent in raina, vijay, badri, Ashwin, Jakati, dhoni himself and now jadeja. CSK is the sum of all its parts. Solid batsmen at the top, big hitting all rounders in the middle and pace and spin bowlers with variety. Right from the beginning,it will be hard to find a CSK squad that was fielded that didnt have atleast 8 batsmen, 6 bowlers and 5 brilliant fielders. CSK fielding is underrated. Pretty much every other team, whether successful or not, has always depended on 3 or 4 players to get far in a season. CSK depends on 9/10 players. The last spot filled by trundlers, parthiv patel or srikanth has always been kinda useless.

Do you get that we had friendly correspondence and agreed to cancel the deal. Only thing was that I would get banned if I created too many threads.

Except in the ODIs where Dhoni is a really special player, his importance is over-estimated everywhere else (Tests, T20s, IPL) by everyone (fans, commentators, players). I'm not saying Dhoni is particularly bad in T20s and Tests, but he is over-rated. MSD is probably in his best batting form in Tests and T20s right now. Though, it doesn't necessarily mean he is the best choice for Tests and T20s.

Well he was the sole reason Chennai got the title in 2010. And yes his strategies have been there for all to see, what a master stroke CSK did in the re-auction trying to retain most of their players.

No..just no. He was always the 3rd or 4th best player in the past seasons with Raina, Hayden, Hussey, Vijay, Badri being the batting mainstay for CSK. If you are referring to that last group stage game against punjab in which he scored a very good 50, again this is where the OP is coming from. His one innings overshadowed others numerous better innings.

Usually Dhoni will screw us by tuk tuking in the first half and then save us by blitzkrieg-ing in the 2nd half and knock-outs. Its only this season that he has looked outstanding right from the first match
