punjabi_khota Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Firstly, how different is his achievement compared to those who come say 5th or 10th? Its all about doing good in this particular exam which is mostly about mugging papers. I see no sense in "celebrating" such achievements School leaving (at 12th) is obviously different than other stages of education. Also, 10th and 12th are the only standardized tests in the country, not 5th or 7th grade. So if it was not just mugging, then it is OK ? IIT-JEE was not just mugging for 50 years, so it is ok celebrate JEE toppers ? Secondly, I was talking about how many of these "toppers" actually went on, in later life to achieve big things? Competition like the Olympiads etc are different, as you are going out of the way to prepare for a competition, unlike these, where you do what you have to do anyways Many obviously did. How many IAS achieved big things ? Why the **** did you say celebrating the IAS is ok ? It is known IAS is the biggest corrupt branch in the government. According to you, we should all just wait till the person is about to die, and then see if he achieved big things. If he/she did so, then celebrate, else shut up. Is that what you propose ? :dontknow:
Crookbond Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 No. I got 72% in 12th. Aur kuch ? Itna serious kab se ho gaya? Chill maar as usual!
CandyFloss Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 :WTF: So what is a 12th grader got to do. Ofcourse if you are ranked 1 in a million, that is an achievement. If nothing else, it shows hard work, and that is a value you need all you life if you want to do anything. You have to measure achievements according to age. Other than 10th and 12th boards, there are various Olympiads for students that age (Physics,Chem,Math,CS). Kids who do well in such competitions often get lot of press in their countries (in US you also have Putnam at undergrad level). Not just India. You can't expect 12 graders to do groundbreaking stuff. nerd sangathan ka president :aetsch:
