Honey trap: Bookies wanted to tape players in the act http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/spot-fixing-hits-ipl-6/news/Honey-trap-Bookies-wanted-to-tape-players-in-the-act/articleshow/20114115.cms The spot-fixing expose could have turned much more embarrassing for the three tainted cricketers. If sources are to be believed, bookies had planned to videotape the players' 'act' while they were with 'escorts' provided to them. The videos could be used to blackmail the players if they went hostile. Interrogation of the arrested bookies and players has also revealed that two bookies, Chandresh Patel alias Chand and Manan, had allegedly arranged for women for Sreesanth and Ajit Chandila five to six times earlier this year.

BCCI will try to limit the investigation to these 3 players only... Srini"s interview to NDTV recently revealed that BCCI are clue less and would like public to believe that 99.99% players are no way involved in these activities... BCCI needs to look at the discrepancy in auction process where mediocre players get massive bids while many deserving players don't get due bids and hence creates some sense of jealousy... That send off which Twatson gave to Maxwell could be an indication... Maxwell hasn't played in many matches and that was the first time he was playing against Twatson...but the nasty send off he got from Twatson indicates that players are angry about how much he's earning....

And on this case, remember it is the Indian police who have to prove that these players did spot fixing rather than these players proving their innocence. Theories such as towers, gestures hardly has any real substance. They did to show the money trial and proper connection with bookies. Just being friends with the bookies can hardly be any evidence. And this investigation itself has to be investigated. That is the most critical thing for me. I am sure there can more names, more high-profile identities involved in this case which the police whether purposefully or mistakenly did not pursue. To even think, that this is the end of the case is a big mistake. A lot of stakeholders in this case.
It is surprising that these 3 have confessed to crimes but they are having a lawyer now. Probably the lawyer will make them confident . But can they convince billion fans, numerous organizations, various sponsors etc. Whatever the result their image has taken a serious beating. These 3 have suffered a lot at behest of billions of Indian fans by means of protests on road, burning and thrashing of effigies, criticism, their acts and confession have gained so much negative publicity that the companies have suspended them from job, the Rajasthan Royals sponsor has withdrawn all their advertisements which featured these cricketers. They were in Kent water purified add which is probably one of their main sponsor. Being in news by challenging the police and the verdicts if any, will ensure their image takes a further beating as news pop up on television, the fixed overs are replayed every day, the panel of ex cricketers demanding severe punishment etc.A BCCI ban seems certain now. Hence, they will never be seen in anymore advertisements as has happened with Azhar , Jadeja etc after they were banned. Indians have heard the tapes, watched those few overs numerous times, the signals as mentioned on TV channels and a conclusion has been made and reflecting in sentiments through various reactions.Their confession news that has reached all people and the BCCI ban will be enough. The fans are now comparing them with Indian politicians. When more and more Indian public compares to politicians it is safe to assume whatever happens henceforth is irrelevant. They themselves have isolated them from billions of fans and went closer to a few hundred unwanted people. They have asked for it by their actions and are getting what they deserve. The bookies will want the cricketer to defend themselves, otherwise the 20+ bookies are also in danger of spending few years in jail. The underworld will try harder that these cricketers take back their confessions and go to court and say they were forced to confess in jail or they never confessed. Either ways they are screwed now, by fans as well as the underworld.Just like what has happened to Salman.

NEW DELHI: The stench of the fixing scandal involving three IPL players just got bigger. As Delhi Police special cell officers carried out sustained interrogation of the three Rajasthan Royals players -- S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan -- as well as 11 arrested bookies, the scope of the investigation was widened on Friday. It's now suspected that the fixing scandal wasn't limited to this year's IPL; there's strong evidence of it being just as rampant last season. It also appears that the fixing business may not have been limited to Rajasthan Royals; names of other players in other teams have emerged during investigations. And it might not have been just spot-fixing; police officers say that while evidence isn't conclusive, entire matches might have been fixed. A snatch of a phone conversation between Chandila and a bookie has widened the range of the probe to last season's IPL. In it, after failing to give the pre-determined signal before bowling a fixed over, and on being told to therefore return the advance of Rs 20 lakh, Chandila says, "Arre yaar ye to pichle saal bhi hua tha, kya hua....kar lenge hisasb" (Hey friend, this happened last year too, we will sort it out). "Pichle saal" or last year would indicate that Chadila was 'fixed' in IPL-5 too. And as this wasn't a statement under duress, but made in an intercepted conversation, the implication is obvious. Realising this, Delhi Police had widened the probe to include matches of the last season, including a match between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. It's learnt that player-turned-bookie Amit Singh has claimed during interrogation that he suspected the match was fixed. In it, RR was required to make 15 runs in 12 balls, but failed to do so.

Of course this will make their image dented forever. But they do not deserve that just yet. There is a lot of false information now and a lot of media companies is putting their own theories which only make this situation worse. The police needs to prove it and till it happens, why can't we all (government, media, public) just wait instead of opening big mouths.

there is going to be an auction for every player next season. but maybe the bcci need to introduce a minimum pay of say $100,000
And how is that gonna solve? The issue we are dealing is corruption! The people who have power and enough money have been involved in corruption so the income does not have any bearings to it. It is a combination of being opportunists and having the techniques to beat the law/police agencies. Just ask the Congress governments, they are proven experts.

Delhi Police in general and Neeraj Kumar in particular want to cash in as much as possible using this issue.... They'll keep on leaking info to get maximum publicity...

from NDTV

1.SN Srivastava, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police, Special Cell, told NDTV yesterday that arrested Rajasthan Royals players - S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan - have confessed to spot-fixing in the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League during their interrogation. However, these confessions are not admissible in a court of law as they have not been recorded before a magistrate.

Of course, Delhi police is doing some PR management and deflecting the public from their failures. (eg. rape cases, corruption...) The way the commissioner acted in the conference together with his infinite interviews already done to various news channels, it is one unprofessional unit and unsurprising hunger to gain attention and fame.

I think its like upper managemnt or matketing team of any company. Special cell did a good job , but these ediots are ruing it for their own interests.

They do it every years.. This is their bread and butter... They are pathetic as a law enforcing agency but under direct control of the home ministry... Every year they target IPL to catch some selected bookies and players for glory hunting and deflecting the public attention from their failures....

Did you not watch the tapes that were played on TV. The signals performed as mentioned in the tapes. Good for you if you still believe these werent fixed.

Investigation is going on for last 1-2 months. Only when they were convinced' date=' they arrested these three players. If they had found any other player in this investigation, they would have arrested that player too.[/quote'] As per the leaks, the investigations have widened now as they suspect more players. Isn't it logical that the fixing will not be limited to only these three players when so much money is going after betting? Also, we have seen other dubious stuff happening in this IPL.

The likes of Azharuddin and Sreesanth were not exactly on the streets but they still wanted more and more cash. Instating a minimum salary will not solve anything. The greed of some Indian cricketers will never stop and their character/ethics are non existent. Flash them a bit of cash and they will sell the country and spit on their fans without a second's thought.

There are infinite signals going on in matches. I am sure these players just did not make signals in that moments. Such as the towels were used in other overs and matches and many other players do that same things. Look, it's not about my or your opinion. It's about how these logic presented is weak.
