'We have been humble, they have got carried away' Symonds sparked by Indian celebrations Cricinfo staff September 28, 2007 spacer.gif312828.jpg?alt=1 Andrew Symonds believes India went over the top in their reaction at winning the World Twenty20 title © Getty Images Andrew Symonds says India were carried away with their ICC World Twenty20 celebrations and that has spurred Australia on for the seven-match ODI series that starts in Bangalore on Saturday. Symonds said his team-mates were keen to reassert their power in the 50-over format. When the Indian players arrived home earlier this week they were taken on a near five-hour ride on an open-top double-decker bus from the airport to Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, with fans lining the roadsides along the 20-kilometre route. At the official ceremony at Wankhede Stadium each player was awarded a cheque for US$200,000. "Something has been sparked inside of me, watching them carry on over the last few days," Symonds told AAP. "We have had a very successful side and I think watching how we celebrate and how they celebrate, I think we have been pretty humble in the way we have gone about it. "And personally, I think they have got far too carried away with their celebrations. It has definitely sparked passion inside of us. It has certainly spiced it up as well." Australia had a lacklustre time at the World Twenty20, losing their opening match to Zimbabwe and suffering a 15-run defeat at the hands of India in a semi-final. The loss ended Australia's hopes of owning the World Cup, Champions Trophy and World Twenty20 titles simultaneously and they sat back and watched as India went on to beat Pakistan in the final. "Something gets triggered inside of you, something is burning inside of you - it is your will for success or your animal instinct that wants to bring another team down," Symonds said. "We have been at the top for so long, it is like someone has taken the favourite thing you own from you and you want it back." © Cricinfo

Facking Indian media actually. Really tiring - they go ask these questions to any cricketer, his mom, grandpa and dog..."Your comments sir...", "Your comments sir..." They can spend their time writing a well analyzed article on the series and players' cricket strengths etc. But they wont. "Your comments sir..."

Well, I did say after the 05 Ashes that England went quite OTT with the open top parade celebrations. I'd say that here as well. I'm glad that despite all the nakra with the politicians, big companies and such all trying to get in with gifts/promotional shots, Dhoni's keeping a level head and focusing on the cricket ahead. BTW - If they can beat Pakistan at home and Australia in Australia, then I won't be calling the parade OTT.

It was OTT....
Absolutely ! A open-top bus parade for 20/20 ! Amazing ! Win the test series in australia and the govt must organize an open-plane air parade or something.

Even if the Aussies rip apart the Indians and win the series 7-0, Indians will still be the T20 world champs till its next edition!!! So Aussies - SUCK IT UP!

You say that like it's a good thing...:whatchutalkingabout
yes, why? scared that this is extra motivation for them to beat the cr@p out of us? i am not worried. i believe we have the team and the attitude to stick it back to them. in the meantime i am just enjoying that they are burning inside.

I dont thnk we will be paraded for anything other than WC victories or a huge tourney involving multiple nations...and its good to get symonds to seethe....makes the series interesting...i guess to them its like "we won 4 cups and all we get was a fosters, these F****** win a 20/20 and they get all this...this ain't fair"

"At the official ceremony at Wankhede Stadium each player was awarded a cheque for US$200' date='000."[/quote'] Actually, that is quite obscene from and in a country where there is so much poverty. Hopefully, some of the players either refused this insult or donated their share to charity.
