carnish Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 White Ferns to tour West Indies | Squad announced The White Ferns will head to the Caribbean in October, where they will face the West Indies in three One Day Internationals (ODI), before taking on the West Indies and England in a Tri-Series Twenty20 competition. A 14 player squad has been named for the tour, with the team set to arrive in Jamaica October 1. They will then play a warm-up match October 4, before facing West Indies in the first ODI two days later. They play their first Tri-Series match against West Indies October 14. All-rounder Kate Broadmore has made herself unavailable for the tour due to university commitments. White Ferns Coach Katrina Keenan said: “An extensive off-season programme has the team well prepared for the upcoming summer. Pre-tour camps in Maroochydore and Tauranga are also part of the build-up.†“The Caribbean tour is a great opportunity for us in both formats and we’re confident we can be successful in both. “I’m very confident in the players we’ve picked and believe that there is a good balance of skills, youth and experience†“With the domestic season scheduled later in the year, those players who missed out will have every opportunity to push their case for future selection and we’ll be watching their progress closely.†SQUAD: Suzie Bates ©, Erin Bermingham, Nicola Browne, Rachel Candy, Sophie Devine, Natalie Dodd, Maddy Green, Frances MacKay, Morna Neilsen, Katie Perkins, Rachel Priest, Sian Ruck, Amy Satterthwaite, Lea Tahuhu

carnish Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 THAILAND WOMEN SHOW THE WORLD THEY CAN PLAY CRICKET Having impressed in their first match of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier, Thailand women’s cricket team did even better in their second match by beating Netherlands by six wickets and it is an important milestone in the history of Thai cricket. This result will be viewed with surprise around the world as Netherlands have competed in previous Women’s World Cups and play regularly against English counties but Thailand have been improving match by match over the last six months and built on a strong performance against Pakistan to gain their first victory in a major ICC competition. Thailand again gave a disciplined performance in the field after Netherlands had won the toss and chosen to bat. Nattaya Boochatham took an early wicket and Netherlands struggled to hit the boundaries needed to score at more than four an over. Boochatham recorded figures of 1 for 13 while Ratanaporn Padunglerd also bowled accurately to take 1 for 14 from her 4 overs. Off-spinner Rattana Sangsoma dismissed Denise Hannema for 25 and finished with 2 for 11 as Netherlands were restricted to a modest total of 84 for 5 in their 20 overs. The Thai girls knew the target was within their reach and that they had to bat sensibly. Openers Pundarika Prathanmitr and Naruemol Chaiwai did just that as they shared a partnership of 31 before Pundarika was caught at mid-on for 18 with two priceless fours. Naruemol faced 10 balls without scoring but kept her composure and also found the boundary and the fifty was up with only one wicket down. But suddenly Thailand’s chase was set back with two run outs from successive balls as Naruemol fell for 17 and captain Sornnarin Tippoch for nine. The score was now 50 for 3 in the 13th over with 35 runs still needed but Nattakan Chantham, still only 17 years old, played the innings of her short life as she went for her shots and hit so cleanly that she made 24 from 19 balls with two boundaries. A fourth wicket fell to another run out but Nattakan saw her side home with six wickets in hand and 2.1 overs to spare and she was deservedly named Player of the Match. The Thais celebrated their famous victory excitedly and another win over Zimbabwe in their next match should put them into the semi-finals. http://www.asiancricket.org/index.php/news/july-2013/2693
