in a way I think thats good - if there is even the slightest chance of a Govt. without Modi, every single one of these leaders (Modi may have denied them tickets but combined together they still have clout in the party) will stand up against him and support an alternate candidate. And one more thing - Modi supporters and RSS may be saying now that if there is a situation of a Govt without Modi then they would rather stay in opposition or go for re-election but the reality is far from that - BJP has been out of power for 10 years and if there is even the slightest chance of forming the Govt then Modi or not, they will go for it. I have no doubt about that. In fact it is with this fact in mind that Rajanth SIngh has chosen Lko - AtalJi's constituency, as his seat. Same is the case with Sushma Swaraj who has suddenly started making her opposition vocal and out in the open.
Advani is a shameless moron. He has had his time in the sun and instead of gracefully exiting the retiring he wants to cause trouble. Same with Jaswant and Joshi. How old are these guys 80 plus? The sooner Modi eliminates the old guard the better. Its long needed reform. Local sartaps barring maybe Chauhan aside are firmly behind modi. The likes of Munda, Raman Singh Raje and Munde who head the units in their state are very much in the Modi corner. Have always been. Do the likes of Swaraj even have a vote base? No.

Parkash Singh Badal is 86 and he is the CM of Punjab - I don't remember people protesting against that. Maybe its because they don't know that he's so old or because LK Advani is the only one in whose case they see the age...

BJP workers cry foul as ‘outsiders’ grab seats

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s attempts to quell rumours of becoming a “party with differences†have been torpedoed by open disagreements over seat allocation and the conspicuous unease among senior leaders L.K. Advani, Lalji Tandon, and, now, Jaswant Singh. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the discontent at the top has percolated to the ranks with protests over candidates selection becoming more visible and vocal. A chorus of angry voices is being heard from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, although party spokespersons described the rumblings as indications of the BJP’s “democratic functioning.†In Uttar Pradesh, where the party is yet to release the full list, differences are out in the open over the choice of candidates in several places, including Domariyaganj, where the former Congress leader Jagdambika Pal has been nominated, and Ghaziabad, where Gen. V.K. Singh has been fielded. In Lucknow, Mr. Lalji Tandon’s supporters are angry at their leader being overlooked. Hema Malini’s last-minute inclusion as a contestant from Mathura has led to heartburning, and the nomination of Satish Gautam from Aligarh was marked by protests. “Jagdambika Pal joined the party on Wednesday and was nominated the same day. So was Heena Gaveet from Nandurbar in Maharashtra. A compulsion to win seems to override conscience in the choice of candidates,†a functionary said. Allahabad, a key constituency, has been given to Shyama Charan Gupta, who till a few days ago was a well-known Samajwadi Party member. The nominations of M.P. Pandey from Chandoli, V.S. Mast from Badohi and Chotte Lal from Sonbhadra have fuelled fear among party workers that the remaining seats will also be given to “outsiders.†A senior leader said party workers did not want to derail the BJP’s 272+ mission as everyone was contributing to the ‘Modi for PM’ campaign. But when the party opted for outsiders it would send out a wrong message, he said. “When Dalit leader Udit Raj joined the BJP, the leadership spoke of how he would impact voting in Uttar Pradesh, but he has been given ticket from Delhi, where his influence is limited. Similarly, the party chose Kirron Kher in Chandigarh, overlooking three strong contenders. Workers on the ground see this as a let-down and it also demoralises them,†he added. In Madhya Pradesh, too, there are fissures. The constituency where the party’s candidate is facing maximum resentment is Hoshangabad. The BJP has fielded the former Congress MP, Rao Uday Pratap Singh, making BJP workers paste posters against his nomination. BJP sources said they were confident that the ‘Modi wave’ and the RSS influence in the district would help the party overcome dissent. In Rajasthan, the most vocal opposition to ticket distribution has been in Barmer and Sikar. In Barmer, BJP workers are miffed at the party denying ticket to Mr. Jaswant Singh and nominating the former Congress MLA, Sonaram Chaudhary, who joined the BJP only three days ago. In Sikar, BJP heavyweights — the sitting MP, Subhash Maharia, and district president Hariram Ranwa — have come out against the decision to give ticket to Swami Sumedhanand.
http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/bjp-workers-cry-foul-as-outsiders-grab-seats/article5815961.ece I can add a few more to this list - In Dewaria in UP, former State Prez Surya Pratap Shahi had been preparing to contest for more than one year and everyone had said that he would contest but at the last minute the ticket was given to Kalraj Mishra because he wanted Kanpur but that was given to MM Joshi as Modi had come to Varanasi. In Agra a lot of workers and office bearers of BJP are completely against the candidate Ram Shankar Katheria. People from different parties come in, join BJP and the very next day they are given tickets while BJP's own leaders who have been with the party for years, are ignored and then on top of that they are expected to keep quite, work for Modi and work for those outsiders to win their seats. Just because BJP is expected to come to power doesn't mean that local leaders would give up their seats for outsiders and if BJP does expect them to do so then it is being naive and foolish.

With the Cong at its lowest point, massive anti incumbency against UPA and having had a big headstart (by starting the campaign in MAY 2013), BJP had a golden chance of winning its highest ever tally in these elections but IMO the ticket selection process will end up doing substantial damage. Modi's zeal the end the careers of all seniors, giving tickets to people who join the BJP from other parties and bringing in outsiders for many seats will cost the BJP dearly.

If trying to prevent BJP from becoming a one man party run on the whims and fantasies of Narendra Modi is called "causing trouble" then yes LK Advani is causing trouble and I hope he continues to do so and others join him. I will agree if you say that Advani has spent a large part of the last decade in trying to become the PM but right now, contrary to all opinion, he is not looking at the PM's chair. As I said in the Modi thread a few days back - the single biggest difference between BJP and Cong has been that Cong has been controlled by one family/one person since independence and now with Modi as the leader, BJP is going down that road where only one person has complete control of the party and no other leaders (apart from those who are firmly in his favor) have a voice so I don't see why Advani, one of the founders of the party, is wrong in protesting and in raising his voice against this. You might have seen in the last few months that anyone within the BJP who has opposed Modi has been "punished" by the party through various means and has been made insignificant - you really think its good for the BJP that only one person has all the power in the party and anyone questioning him is punished?

Problem with these senior leaders is that they thought Modi will easily fail even before election starts. Advani & Co thought announcing Modi as PM candidate will harm BJP's chance,but once results are out they are redfaced. Now they are trying undermine Modi leadership by starting tantrums.ironically they now have support from BJP haterz. Even in top corporate houses when leadership battle is over whoever wins make sure their leadership base become stronger by sidelining opposition,so what's big deal if political party does same.

For the last 10 years when Cong was looting the country it wasn't Modi who was out there in Delhi opposing them and fighting them at every possible opportunity. It was leaders like LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, MM Joshi, Jaswant Singh etc. And now that the party is almost sure to get back to power, Modi & Co are doing everything possible to insult and humiliate these leaders and to end the careers of most of them. This is most certainly NOT the BJP I have supported so far.

Harin Pathak, 7 time MP from Ahmadabad East, denied ticket. The ticket has been given to Actor Paresh Rawal. On a completely unrelated note - Harin Pathak is a big supporter of LK Advani and LKA wanted him to get the ticket.

IMO the next senior leader to be denied a ticket may be Bhopal MP Kailash Joshi (and it will not be because of the so called "sting operation" - everyone in the BJP knows that Joshi is one of the most honest leaders in the party and would never do such a thing) - he offered LK Advani his Bhopal seat 2-3 days ago when there were doubts about whether LKA would contest from Gandhinagar or not.

Hence, the decision to still stick to Gandhinagar.[/quote'] No. Pranab Mukherjee will be Prez till 2017 - at that time LKA will be 90 years old -hence he won't be the Prez. He is too big a leader to have any other post in the Govt. apart from PM so no cabinet post as well. IMO the reason he took Gandhinagar was that in the Central Election Committee meeting where Gandhinagar was discussed (in which he did not come because he, unlike pretty much ALL leaders in the country, thinks it is not right for him to attend a meeting where his own candidature would be discussed), the CEC had a unanimous view that he should contest from Gandhinagar but seeing that me was reluctant to contest form Gandhnagar, they left the decision to him. I guess this was a face saving compromise for both the party and LKA - he got to choose his constituency himself while the party was not embarrassed because he ultimately decided to contest from Gandhinagar.
