Scarves Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Out of interest who are the fans who truly enjoy the game? The cricket fans who go to stadiums and watch on TV - IPL and ODI matches or the ones love test cricket but dont bother attending games or even watching them on TV. But you also have to realize that test cricket tickets can be pricey especially for some of the poorer nations and people. Sometimes people just don't have the time because of work, there are too many variables. I mean I work and yet I can't go to every single day of a test, let alone ODIs and T20's. Does that make me less of a cricket fan? No that's not fair because I have to earn money to be able to use a little of it to go to a match. People sometimes don't have the time to go to a test game because it spans for several hours, at least with an ODI you can go after work and catch the 2nd innings and T20 you can catch straight after work.
BeautifulGame Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I think us and England cricket fans can give you heaps of answers to that question' date=' or if you didn't hear about the world record crowd in Melbourne during the 4th test. Ive been to the Australia-South Africa 2nd Test in 2005-06 and i can tell you that it was an experience which i'll cherish forever.[/quote'] England and Aussie fans love test cricket and no one can question them. That why Ashes will always generate revenue to sustain itself. The question was with regards to the other 8 nations
Scarves Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Do the rugby association in NZL care for India or for the facilities of indian sportsmen.Same for any other sport. Every other sporting body in India apart from BCCI is inept and struggling bad financially and players there are poorly paid and more often than not struggle to meet their ends.Yet i dont see any other country fund them or share there revenue to help these sports in India. The fact is the resposibility of the board is for their fans not for other countries. Frankly if you cant survive test cricket without generating enough revenue domestically then stop bother playing test cricket. You live within your mean not depending on the handout from other boards. Yeah because NZ are really trying to take control and are asking more from the IRB as a profit share. Also isn't that the fault of the Government like you know in other countries, the Government tries to help every sport. The last statement is horrible, you would rather countries dying in cricket so India can get more money? Is that really what you want?

If people cant attend test cricket due to its length then clearly the problem is with test cricket.Either make it viable (maybe day night tests or any other option) stop playing test cricket. You cant force test cricket on boards where there is very little interest and commercially unviable. That is what FTP is doing. Honestly the only countries that test cricket can survive on their own are Aus and Eng where people actually come to watch.
G_B_ Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Think outside India for a second. New Zealand for example, less money you get. How are you going to compete with basketball, soccer and of course Rugby Union with less money to develop your sport, there will be less money spent on grassroots, on getting better cricketers, better facilities, worse TV rights because sponsors will see a dwindling interest in the sport and that would be bad for the NZCB for example. You basically lose a country just like that. Think about this wisely. NZ have only 3-4 grounds to maintain. The BCCI have 60 grounds. NZ cricket can run its affairs extremely well on 50 million USD. BCCI needs 10 times that amount.
rajmarie Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Out of interest who are the fans who truly enjoy the game? The cricket fans who go to stadiums and watch on TV - IPL and ODI matches or the ones love test cricket but dont bother attending games or even watching them on TV. Thats an interesting question. Who are these fans. We always hear that Test cricket is the true form...etc etc & that is cherish most by fans....yet stadiums are empty...& even the TRP on TV is poor. Once in a while a match or series happens that excites the fans...& they drag themselves to the stadiums or in front of TV...& we see comments like "this is why Test cricket is needed" etc etc. Can we blame these fans also...since the Test cricket has been so dulled down now that its looks like a waste of time & only exciting moments or 30 mins highlights are what gets to fans. Then we have fans of T20 leagues who go to stadiums or watch on TV & gets excited for the huge 66m SIX...& hear commentators yelling out how a particular players 20 run innings is the best cricket innings he have seen...or how a bowler picked up 4 wickets in 4 overs (mostly caught in the outfield) is the best bowling ever. These fans gets their "paisa wasole" game & then forget about it next day (or couple of days). I myself is in this bracket....& like IPL for that. No emotinonal attachment (like now I am pissed off at India losing...but dont care who win/lose much in IPL).

Honestly the only countries that test cricket can survive on their own are Aus and Eng where people actually come to watch. Do you know why it survives in Australia comparative to other countries? It is cheaper, the stadiums are bigger, it is a time where people have holidays, so of course they can attend. It looks big in England but the stadiums don't hold that many people at all. If people can't make it then it is not the game's fault. The game has been fine for 140 odd years and people have attended then and now. There are several reasons why people can't rock up. But look I mean you want cricket to be a niche sport between 3 countries where the world will not give a damn where both England and Australians will lose interest, then it looks like you'll have your wish.
G_B_ Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 How is that racist? In what world is that racist? Just because India has to share, it is racist? What kind of bullshit is that. For a sport to be well off there needs to be parity, so yes NZ a team I might add that is beating India should deserve more money that currently attaining with a loan I might add for hosting a test series rather than the ICC taking that money and spreading it around the full nations. Yet you want India, England and Australia to have more money causing detriments to the development of a sport which will become a niche sport eventually and you are using the term racist flippantly? So you care about India more than a development of a sport that you cherish, so India can feel better about themselves? Its racist to treat a country of 1.2 billion and a country of 4-6 million the same with the country of 1.2 billion brings in 80% of revenue. Is you think its fair that India bring in 80% of the revenue and the next country brings in 5% of the revenue and India who have huge sections of its area where there is no cricket infra should not see more of a return on what it brings to the table then that is racist IMO. Its racist to call the BCCI "greedy" when on a per capita basis most other broads are richer than Indian cricket. So they can keep all the revenue considering this is what it is about. I don't see where it says that India are willing to host an ICC event with SRL and BAN at all, if anything they will want to keep every single match to fill up stadiums and people will watch it on TV which means more ratings, more money and such there is more revenue for the BCCI. Do you think they want to share it with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh? what revenue? Broadcasting income goes directly to the ICC. Its going to cost the BCCI money to stage the world cup at stadiums which are nearly empty, which is what BD and SL games will be. There will be huge overheads of security involved. Historically India have always shared the tournament. The least we can do is wait for what they decide to do. The fact is majority of the worlds cricket fans live in India. More than the rest of the world put together. The WC in 2011 brought in record income for the ICC. This income was used to prop up poor cricketing nations. You cant have it both ways. Expect to take 80% of the revs from the BCCI and give it nothing in return. You also claim that you dont want it to be a niche sport. Yet you are against hosting every 3rd world cup in india which brings in the most money. So where exactly is your money to support the poorer cricketing nations going to come from? I dont see you moaning that England have hosted 1975,1979,1983, 1999, 2019 world cups all on their own. I mean they hosted the champions trophy in 2013 and are set to host it again in 2017.
Scarves Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 However I would love to see what happens if the ICC calls BCCI's bluff on not participating on any ICC events. It would be interesting to see if then the BCCI officially quits the ICC and then tries to maybe sign players from all over the world to IPL and make it as big as possible.

Also isn't that the fault of the Government like you know in other countries, the Government tries to help every sport. I am not blaming other boards for not helping out India but just pointing out thats how every sport works. They depend out their domestically generated revenue to sustain not depend on hand outs from bigger countries which is what happening in cricket. Ofcourse its the fault our govt and politicials  but thats altogether different discussion. The last statement is horrible, you would rather countries dying in cricket so India can get more money? Is that really what you want? Er no.Cricket doesnt mean just test cricket. My point is either make test cricket commercially viable (like in Eng Aus) or dont bother playing. Not from the revenue generated from India. If they cant generate revenue from tests then play the format that actually brings fans to the stadium like CPL did in WI

Actually 1999 was hosted in Scotland, Ireland and Netherlands but I don't see the ECB threatening to pull out of the ICC events and drafting a proposal that they have to host an event every two years. You really don't know what racism is do you? Okay someone saying that all african american people are gang members trying to kill people is racist. A sporting body getting so called less money than they create is not racist. I don't get how that is racist, this isn't some loose term to throw around. Also in regards to the money sharing, I think it is fair. It is parity and it helps the other countries. I don't know why sport has to be about greed with money and if anything even if they are bringing less money, they are still kicking India's ass at the moment, so maybe they should get more money based on performances.

Scotland is not a permanent member and Netherlands is neither. Every knockout game was hosted in England. In the last WC BD and SL for example hosted plenty of matches. SL hosted a semi and QF and BD hosted 2 QF I personally think its greedy of you that you dont want sections of India to develop their cricketing infra when their country actually backrolls cricket.
Scarves Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 the icc will go bust. What bluff are they going to call? I doubt the ICC will go bust but it will be an inferior less corrupt product of course but hey it will be interesting as well. I think ICC should call on the bluff because I think cricket will survive longer as an international sport but of course the IPL will be stronger for the Indian public. Now if that were to happen hypothetically, how would other countries survive? Would you bring government funding like in other sports which for some reason India fails to have that, I don't know why because with a population of 1.2 billion you think investing in other sports can pay off massive dividends like China. It would be an interesting situation for both sides. I mean I would rather a parity in revenue sharing and a situation where no one has more power over others but that disagrees with several opinions shared by members, we just have to see what happens then.

I would rather see countries like NZ, Sri Lanka and heck even Canada survive playing cricket than anything else but apparently that means India has to suffer for some reason...you know instead of relying on the IPL and stuff but there you go apparently I'm greedy because I want other nations to survive playing cricket.

What will happen is in the long run stars will jump ship and play in the IPL. Broads like SL/WI/NZC will simply not survive with their players preferring to play in the IPL. We have played SL so many times and yet they have huge deficits. You think they will survive not getting any ICC income? Secondly your assuming that India will leave on its own. We will certainly take WI, SL and Zim with us.
bangladeshifan Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 so according to the plan BD and ZIM will have test status but they will have to play 4 day matches against associates. great :yay: time to start following football
GoldenSun Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 so according to the plan BD and ZIM will have test status but they will have to play 4 day matches against associates. great :yay: I feel for you blokes, having to depend on BCCI.
Scarves Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 So let me get this straight, rather than seeing a sport develop around the world by helping the poorer nations, you guys would rather have India, England and Australia taking more money leading to a great chance that the sport will become a niche, that ECB and CA will knock off BCCI, so the BCCI can have more money and power to make demands such as an event every two years in India, where India threatens to pull out of cricket if their demands aren't met and yet other sports are failing badly in India where even they got banned by the IOC, not even Iraq has managed that feat.
Austin 3:!6 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 When is Sreeni's term as a Chairman getting over guys? This bloke is the biggest scum in Indian cricket history.
