Under Utilising Coaches in IPL

I will start with a cliche-Call it a Tamasha or a circus,but there is no denying iPL is the place to be for every cricketer-let it be a domestic player or an international star or a coach. Now we know that batting coaches in T20 are pretty much pointless but where T20 players can improve their game to make an impact is in their bowling and fielding. Now the cash rich franchises have signed some big name legends to bring in their expertise but it feels more to showcase their roster than anything else. We keep wondering how our bowling hasn't improved or for the matter of fact fielding(I will give some credit to IPL here for the improvement though) has not set the world alight. Now from what I see the Coaches and the squads the teams have are not well synced. Let me start of with my home team SRH-Call it Steyn+bunch of other average bowlers but the fact is SRH is probably one of the better bowling sides in IPL from last year....Waqar is the bowling coach but how does it help the squad?Apart from Steyn the regular seam bowlers are Ishant,Perera and Sammy.This is pretty much a given seam attack.there are only 2 other "promising "young seam bowlers VP Singh and Tyagi who will not get a game until the main bowlers are injured,so what is the point of Waqar.They have 2 spinners on the fringes of internationals like Mishra and Karan Sharma but there is no spin coach....so isn't that a waste of Waqar here? Rasthan Royals-No big name coaches.Does well as a unit but no player has had a turnaround season may be apart from Samson or Rahane.Maybe some credit to be given to dravid who played the role of a mentor but that's about it. EPWI E stands for extinct :giggle: but anyways why the F would you hire Donald as your coach when your bowling consists of B.K(who may have benefited),Dinda :banghead: and Pandey with not a lot of back up bowling options.Again no spin coach but then they have only Rahul Sharma,Mendis and Murtuza KKR They probably have the best Spin bowling resources amidst all franchises but no Spin Coach :WTF: Narine,Sena,Ladda,Shakib,Abdullah and maybe even Yusuf Pathan.They are OK when it comes to fast bowling coaches/consultant.AKram and Lee and they have the resources too so I think they got it right there.Shami,Pattinson,Kallis,Sangwan,The 2 B's (Balaji and Bhatia :haha:) Kings X1:They have a decent list of domestic and international bowling resources but their coaching staff consists of Raman,Rathore and Lehmann-All 3 batsmen and of course Joe Dawes :banghead:,They could easily hire an additional bowling consultant or have a bowler be the mentor by firing some of them. RCBThey have made Vettori their coach but were are the spin resources...Murali and Murali.K will not benefit by a lot of coaching at this phase in their careers.They do have a bowling coach and they do have seam bowling resources-Lets leave it at that and not go into names :cantstop: CSK Dhoni's love for spinners is well known but where is a spin bowling consultant -Aswin,Jaddu,Jakati,Akila.When it comes to other departments,they have a decent bowling pool and they hired a decent coach so I guess they are ok there.their head coach Fleming is known to be a master at utilising his resources and he clearly does that with the team and hence he is in contention for a lucrative Indian coaching stint M.I probably have the best coaching staff and the results are definitely showing.Even though Malinga had an off season,M.J has benefited a lot as he has stated that the stint set the tone for him to get back in rhythm.Now they need to utilize their coaching strength to develop decent back ups.Hope to see some promising Indian spinners given a go under Kumble's mentor ship. DD-Another team with a wonderful bowling coaching staff and very good bowling resources but inefficient team management,almost the opposite to CSK.Man-to-Man they are as good as CSK and M.I but when it comes to getting the team combo,etc right it has hurt them and once again shows the inefficiency of the head coach.

Glen McGrath would make a great bowling coach for India, he spends a lot of time in India, and does not pull any punches is brutally honest and is not to just going to give false praise to people. Think he would make a very good bowling coach. But the problem is Indians don;t not like it when people are up front and honest with them, Indians need to be sweet talked etc, don;t think you will get that from McGrath.

If you wan't bowling coaches for India then get them for team India, because IPL coaches aren't going to do anything for our national side. All this talk of 'working with the bowlers' and 'learning from the best' sounds like nonsense because I'm quite sure that most players, coaches and other staff only turn up for the match and only see each other in parties otherwise.
