Rishi Dhawan stars in FCI win

Yuvraj Singh followed his century on Sunday with another sparkling show with the bat, striking a 76-ball 79 at the BCCI Corporate Trophy – named after Raj Singh Dungarpur, the former board president – in Mumbai on Monday (February 17). Fresh from a match-winning 74-ball 105 against State Bank of Mysore, Yuvraj struck eight fours and four sixes against India Cements, while Sachin Rana, the Haryana allrounder, added a quickfire 52 off just 28 balls to help Air India post 272 for 8 in 50 overs. However, that total proved inadequate, with Abhinav Mukund, who had gone unsold at the IPL auctions last week, spearheading a successful chase. While the batsmen made merry in Mumbai, the bowlers came to the fore in Nagpur. Rituraj Singh, the Rajasthan medium-pacer playing for CAG, took 6 for 27 as State Bank of Travancore were shot out for 67, before Ankit Lamba and Jalaj Saxena, the openers, chased down the target in just 15.1 overs to notch up the side’s second win. In Nagpur’s other match, Varun Aaron and Sandeep Warrier took three wickets each, but couldn’t prevent MRF from suffering a 22-run loss against ONGC. Aaron and Warrier had contributed to ONGC being restricted to 254 for 9 in 50 overs, but MRF could muster only 232 all out in 48.3 overs in reply, with Saurabh Kumar taking 4 for 41. In Ahmedabad, Indian Income Tax restricted Andhra Bank to 228 for 7 and then registered a five-wicket win, getting to the target in 46.1 overs. Jay Desai (60), Aditya Waghmode (49) and Sangram Atitkar (46 not out), one of the members of the Maharashtra squad that reached the Ranji Trophy final last month, contributed to the chase. Elsewhere in Ahmedabad, Piyush Chawla, Sandeep Sharma and Mayank Agarwal starred in Chemplast’s five-wicket win over Indian Oil. Chawla, the Uttar Pradesh captain and Sandeep, the Punjab medium-pacer, picked up three wickets each while Agarwal, the aggressive Karnataka batsman who was picked up for 1.6 crore by Delhi Daredevils, struck 65 off 84 balls. In Vadodara, Sunil Joshi, the former India and Karnataka spinner, picked up three wickets to help Canara Bank post their second win while State Bank of Hyderabad prevailed over BSNL by four runs.
