The app, which is available for OS X, Windows, and Linux, shows a catalog of movies and loads them up on a computer in an interface as seamless as that of most legit streaming services, but using means that are generally less than legal. Typically, torrenting a movie (illegally, if it's copyrighted property) involves seeking out a sketchy torrent website littered with porn ads to download a .torrent file that users hope will actually result in a movie and not, say, a virus. The process's pitfalls and risks are many, not to mention the potential for getting called out by one's ISP and, in rare instances, being fined or sued. moniker Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 The video will be seeded for only the duration of the video, and then it's deleted from your computer. Then if you don't have multiple viewers of the same video watching simultaneously there won't be any seeds/peers and consequently no downloading/streaming?

StriKe Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Popcorn Time is a magical program that takes all the hassles out of torrenting a movie. It’s Hollywood’s worst nightmare. It’s essentially Netflix for pirated movies. And now it’s gone. The program’s installer was hosted by Kim Dotcom’s Mega. Not anymore. The installer was pulled from the hosting site this morning for violating Mega’s terms of service. The developers are currently looking for a new host. If nothing else, the installer itself can be decentralized and simply served through bit torrent itself. While this method eliminates the ease of use the developers were after, they will no longer have to worry about abiding by a host’s terms of service. The installer is already on several torrent sites. It’s unlikely that this is the end of Popcorn Time. The developers behind the open source project will find a new host and it will live to fight Hollywood another day. Tried Popcorn Time yesterday, was very impressed, connected straight away and played movie without any buffering.

But while Popcorn Time’s creators may be walking away, it seems the app may live again: The torrent site YTS is taking on the project, reports TorrentFreak. “We are in a better position copyright wise as for us, because it’s build on our API, it’s as if we have built another interface to our website,†YTS developer Jduncanator told TorrentFreak. “We are no worse off managing the project than we would be just supplying the movies.†The Popcorn Time project is now up on GitHub, and it’s only a matter of time until YTS reworks the app to work with its torrent database. Crookbond Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 The project (in terms of idea) won't die if taken up by a big venture. Someone like YIFY has a better chance otherwise the big fish just scuttle the smaller ones if there's any disruption via torrents.
