CANNOT believe Pakistan lost from the position they were in. Even Zim would have won from that stage. Pak giving tough competition to Saffies for choking. Its just inexplicable Pak rested Gul for this match. He could have played instead of Tanvir, it would have made a massive difference.

While I wanted to see Gul play, I don't think the loss had anything to do with the bowling whatsoever. It was yet another case of Pakistan bowlers doing the good work and Pakistani batsman washing it away.

In a pitch on which 3 fast bowlers took 4 wicket hauls, a VERY VERY rare occurrence,Pakistan rested its best fast bowler in the last months. God knows how much less the Saffies would have made if Gul had played. Pakistan selection sometimes totally lacks any sort of cricketing logic , which of course , makes us wonder if there are other non-cricketing reasons for that particular selection decision.

You are now hiding behind the " Pakistan's bowlers did ok , its the batsman that screwed up" , because you speak with the benefit of hindsight. What if Pakistan didnt come close ? What if pakistan was bowled out for 170 in the 40 th over ? what would you have said then ? Something along the lines of " Surely Gul should have played on this pitch" , i would assume. Just because Pakistan got away with it , doesnt mean not picking Gul isnt a mistake. The pitch was so responsive to fast bowling .Ifthikar bowled Gibbs with a one that swung back in AFTER the 20th over. Now , how many times do you see that happen in a one-dayer ?

Annatha , when you look for reasons why we got defeated , we look at the whole Hog. It was a combination of bad discipline + poor selection + Pathetic pressure batting that made pakistan lose today. Its a pity that they never get the mental side of sport right , they are otherwise such a talented team.
