Texan Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Khattar is not an inspiring choice for CM. Capt. Abhimanyu or even Rao Inderjit Singh would have been better. One is a Jat and the other is a recent import from Congress. I think that was what worked against them. But I agree, choice of CM was definitely not the best in Haryana. I can already see BJP losing power after 5 years.
Raghav_12 Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Ex-BJP MLA under scanner for a meeting before violence stepped up http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-others/ex-bjp-mla-under-scanner-for-a-meeting-before-violence-stepped-up/ A former BJP MLA, Sunil Vaid, has been asked to clarify his role in connection with the riots which broke out in Trilokpuri, East Delhi, last week. Police sources said their investigations revealed that Vaid held a “closed door conference†with his supporters at his office on Friday morning, just before the violence escalated. Vaid, who lost the last assembly elections from Trilokpuri, has been asked to clarify the purpose of that meeting. Police confirmed that he may be called for questioning later. At least 17 civilians and 40 police personnel were injured in the clashes between Hindus and Muslims, which broke out on Friday and carried on till Saturday afternoon. Vaid’s alleged role emerged after locals told the police that hundreds of his supporters attended a meeting at his office in Block 21 — one of the riot-hit areas. According to sources, Vaid’s supporters later marched out of the block shouting slogans. A PCR van reportedly noticed the mob leaving his office just before the violence escalated. Speaking to The Indian Express, Vaid denied that he had been questioned by the police. He claimed he had called the police to complain about their inaction in connection with the incident on Thursday evening, when five youths reportedly created trouble next to the Mata ki Chowki in Block 20. “Around 200 people came to my office on Friday morning to discuss the police inaction… They wanted the miscreants to be punished. I called up the area ACP and asked him to come and address their grievances. It is then that we all met the ACP. While we were addressing the crowd at my office, the ACP got a call about the Mata ki Chowki being attacked by a mob. After that, all of them went to the spot to check what had happened,†said Vaid. “I am not involved in the incident. I was not even present at the spot,†he claimed. Meanwhile, the police have arrested 44 people — 32 Muslims and 12 Hindus — and registered three FIRs in connection with the riots so far. One FIR mentions that Blocks 21-27 were the areas hit by violence. Another 14 people — seven Hindus and seven Muslims — have been arrested for making bogus calls and trying to create a scare among residents. Among the accused, one Mohammed Irfan is a history sheeter with cases registered against him in Mayur Vihar police station. Police said further investigations are on and more arrests are expected. The police have also obtained video footage of a man firing a gun during the violence. Police said they are trying to identify the man. - BJP is stepping it up in Delhi after running paid love-jihad in UP.
G_B_ Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 looking at the BJP and J and K 87 seats in total I feel BJP will be able to get 30 seats. Based on support in Jammu and Ladakh. What the party needed is for the votes to be split in kashmir between Abdullah and PDP, the valley has about 44 seats. I doubt the bjp will get more than 2-3 max in there. So if the BJP can get most seats. They can potentially form a coalition government with the weaker section of the PDP or NC (more likely).
Sachin=GOD Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 One is a Jat and the other is a recent import from Congress. I think that was what worked against them. But I agree' date= choice of CM was definitely not the best in Haryana. I can already see BJP losing power after 5 years. That shouldn't have mattered. Now that the BJP had got a full majority, they had a chance to rise above cast equations and select the best man for the job - if he performed then people would have voted for him 5 years down the line irrespective of whether he was a Jat or not or was an ex-Congressi etc.
G_B_ Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 i am happy with the appointment of khattar as cm in haryana. i feel the congress sunk in haryana based on courruption and scams. the economic growth of haryana is actually quite good. khattar with his background will ensure a lack of scams. as far as being re elected. if the inld do ally with the congress its going to be hard for the bjp. so it might be wise to keep the inld sweet.
G_B_ Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 and what do we think of elections on delhi? imo go for the kill and imo bring back harsh vardhan as cm. feb 2015 appears to be the time.
someone Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 as far as being re elected. if the inld do ally with the congress its going to be hard for the bjp. so it might be wise to keep the inld sweet. You are very pessimistic. What if INLD allies with BJP, Congress would be finished there. And just to remind you, the lone BSP MLA is supporting BJP. Next, it's not as simple as you wrote. There have been some tough and bad experiences for BJP. In past, some alliance partner had their own terms and BJP played a second fiddle role. BJP never got to truly grow in various regions of India because of that. Today, in power, they have an golden opportunity to grow and create potential great leaders locally. So if alliances do happen, should be on BJP conditions , not another mistake like in past. And if anything, lack of power is likely to hurt or break an organization/ political party. So it is a big challenge for INLD and their future.
Sachin=GOD Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 and what do we think of elections on delhi? imo go for the kill and imo bring back harsh vardhan as cm. feb 2015 appears to be the time. Modi-Shah completely botched up in this case. Should have gone for elections immediately after coming to power. Now I guess Early next year looks about right for fresh elections.

The party obviously feels the need to "reward" the castes that overwhelming voted for them by nominating one from within them (or rather not nominating the caste that did not overwhelmingly vote for them). If you see the similarity, even Maharashtra CM comes from Vidarbha, the region that overwhelmingly voted for BJP. But in his case, the general feeling is that he is also the best candidate available irrespective of region. Even if you look at the Congress party after LS elections 2014, they wanted Kharge from Karnataka to be the Leader of Oppn despite him being relatively new to LS and Kamalnath being the more senior leader there. That is only because Karnataka gave Congress their most MPs among all states.
Raghav_12 Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Behind bloodshed in Bengal: restive Muslims moving from TMC to BJP http://indianexpress.com/article/india/politics/behind-bloodshed-in-bengal-restive-muslims-moving-from-tmc-to-bjp/99/#sthash.Z9BOeGg6.dpuf Though I dislike to the core in it's current version and under current leadership, I find it to be welcome news. I am in for anything that takes religion out of the political equations. On Wednesday, two days after three people were killed in a clash between TMC and BJP workers in Birbhum, two separate corners in the district’s Makra village told two different stories. On one side, the relatives of 16-year-old Tausif Sheikh were waiting for his body to arrive from the morgue; on the other, a group of people were waiting to begin Mozammel Sheikh’s funeral. Together, the two stories point to a larger narrative: The fallout at the grassroots level of, what villagers and leaders in the area say, is the political migration of Muslims from Mamata Banerjee’s TMC to the BJP in a large number of villages across Birbhum in the northern tip of Burdwan. The local TMC leadership has dismissed suggestions of any such movement, claiming that only a “disgruntled section†of Muslims and “mostly the corrupt ones†have shifted to BJP. But Makra and neighbouring Parui — where the latest clashes took place — provide a window to this shift. Sheikh Saukat Ali, 61, father of Tausif, explains, “This village, with 1,200 voters, was a traditional support base of Forward Bloc. However, in 2009, all of us joined TMC. This was one of the strongest support base of TMC under the Sainthia block. But in the past three years, we did not get our dues under MNREGA. The TMC panchayat members have taken away our job cards and bank pass books too. Those who protested were tortured.†Ali’s anger at the TMC does not end there. “There was infighting over sharing extortion money in the village, and resentment started brewing,†he adds. “We found that the minorities were being neglected by the TMC as they were by the CPM before. We needed a shelter. This July, all of us – barring 12 houses – in the village of Makra joined BJP.†According to BJP’s Birbhum district president, Doodhkumar Mondal, “(Ali’s son) Tousif is BJP’s third Muslim martyr in Bengal. The region is witnessing a new political turf battle here.†All the “three Muslim martyrs†that the BJP is claiming as its own are from Birbhum: Sheikh Rahim who was hacked to death in Illambazar in July; Sheikh Emanul who was shot dead in Illambazar on October 9; and now, Makra’s Tausif Sheikh. A cross-section of villagers and political workers at the panchayat level told The Indian Express that over 250 villages in at least 24 gram panchayats spread over three assembly segments of Birbhum – Sainthia, Rampurhat and Bolpur – have swung towards the BJP in recent months. Significantly, the three assembly segments are dominated by minorities, with Muslims constituting around 60 per cent of the population. For the people here, the TMC appears to have morphed from being an answer to the CPM to become a question mark of its own. Consider the complaints of Makra’s Muslims: * There is only one sub-divisional hospital at Siyan, 27km away; the nearest primary health centre, with two doctors, is at Illambazzar, 17km from the village. * Despite “gheraoing†the panchayat, demanding development and payment for MNREGA workers, the villagers were rebuffed. Asked why the TMC won all 11 seats in Batika gram panchayat under which Makra falls, Tousif’s father Ali says, “There was no voting as there were no opponents.†“We were forced to leave the TMC,†says Sheikh Azharauddin, a BJP leader in the area. “We used to work for the party honestly. But then, we saw how we were being marginalised. The panchayat was almost defunct. This year, the villagers dug eight ponds but no payments were made (under MNREGA). We were asked to open bank accounts which we did nine months ago. But no money was deposited.†According to the villagers, the provocation for Monday’s violence came from a team of TMC workers called the “Action Force†that included 11 party supporters from Makra. To prove their point, they point to the third victim in Monday’s violence. Inquiries by this newspaper revealed that Soleman Sheikh did not belong to any of the villages in the area. He was a TMC worker from Dubrajpur, about 30 km away from Makra. The political graph of this shift is equally revealing: * During the days leading up to and immediately after the Lok Sabha polls, voting patterns showed a clear shift of the CPM’s support base to the BJP in North Bengal and some other districts. In Birbhum, it was the TMC that was losing its base to BJP. * In the elections, BJP got at least 30 per cent of votes in the assembly segments dominated by Muslims in Birbhum district. In Rampurhat, where Muslims constitute over 50 per cent of the population, BJP received a vote share of 25 per cent to TMC’s 34 per cent. In Dubrajpur, it bagged a vote share of 26 per cent, and in Sainthia, 21 per cent. According to senior BJP leaders, these areas had never given the BJP more than 10 per cent of the vote share before. Rahul Sinha, state president of the BJP, says the TMC’s “politics of minority appeasement†has begun to backfire. “The TMC had to come to power with 28 per cent of the Muslim vote and another 6-8 per cent from its own vote bank. But if 10-12 per cent of the Muslim vote now swings towards the BJP, a different political history is on the anvil,†he adds, when asked about the Makra-Parui flare-up. However, Anubrata Mondal, the TMC’s district president, refutes suggestions that Muslims are leaving his party to join the BJP. He says, “All these Muslims had come to TMC from the CPM and now a disgruntled section of them – mostly the corrupt ones – is switching over to the BJP in some areas. There is no threat to our party’s support base.â€

G_B_ Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Modi-Shah completely botched up in this case. Should have gone for elections immediately after coming to power. Now I guess Early next year looks about right for fresh elections. so it has happened. In typical fashion I dont think BJP will run with Harsh Vardhan. They will project Modi again. Lets hope the wave is intact till then. This was a wasted chance. Should have had elections along with Jharkhand and JK @someone Look there are two modes in which the Congress can operate (A) A mode looking to win elections on their own (B) A mode looking to stop the BJP from winning. INLD for example will always levitate towards the weaker party. Which at the moment is the congress. If the congress was strong in the state they would have levitated towards the BJP. Historically INLD and BJP had had ties in the state because the congress was strong. There is no harm in making the INLD part of the central government and giving them some minor ministries. Ministries where scope for corruption is limited or they can hand them a few governorship of some north east states.
G_B_ Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Its also good news for the BJP in Jharkhand as the JMM and Congress have failed to secure an alliance. The congress will run with RJD and JD(u) Babulal Marandi will run with TMC BJP will ally with AJSU http://www.thehindu.com/elections/assembly2014/bjp-clinches-deal-with-ajsu-in-jharkhand/article6561078.ece The big danger for the BJP was if JMM and Congress had come together. But as they have not I think the BJP should really be odds on to win it. I was worried when BJP did not clinch a deal with Marandi and JMM was going to form a maha alliance with the Congress combine. It also appears that Congress-JD(u)-RJD are going to stick it together. So it does appear the combine will make it to Bihar 2015. This one should be in the bag for the BJP.

Like why will INLD always levitate towards weaker party? Did it levitate towards BJP during 2004-2013? Next, parties like INLD have their fixed vote bank set. So if BJP wants to capture some of that votes, they need to work independently. BJP doesn't gain anything by allying with INLD currently. Future, if situation changes, sure they could think about alliances, but why now? There is no hurry and need.

Wont be surprised if BJP wins sweeps the election with 20% of the vote. There have been candidates in Jharkhand who have won with 15% of the vote. :cantstop: The only issue for the BJP I can think of is that in a 5 phase election will Namo have time to keep canvassing? You cant expect the PM to campaign in a relatively small state for nearly a month. At max 5-6 rallies probably. A solution might be to declare a CM candidate. Arjun Munda is the mass leader. But will Modi go for him or another hand picked RSS man?

Look nobody is saying next election time you fight it out with the INLD. Its only fair the BJP grow their share. The point is to stop the INLD from forming a potential alliance with the Congress. By all mean fight elections alone. But post elections throw the INLD enough scraps to make sure they dont think about making a deal with the congress.

Jharkhand was always going to be multiple phrases due to security reasons. With such, Modi is going to have more time to do rallies there. And you are giving a solution but where is the problem? BJP is going for collective leadership for this elections and that's a right decision. There is also a divided local leadership so no need to declare CM candidate before hand.
