G_B_ Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Interesting thought. Just a prob with the bolded part. I do agree BSP doesn't have the mandate - but do SP have? Well, if we are taking the indicators based on LS 2014 elections, shouldn't that be the case? I think its a mechanism to rule out massive changes not just in LS but also in state legislatures. SP do actually, they won the assembly elections in 2012 and also won the by polls which happened in 2014. Its not just that the BSP have been defeated. They have been crushed in terms of numbers. The margin of defeat too needs to be taken into account. The last time BSP won a huge victory in anything significant was in 2007. There is a lag of close to 8 years. Their numbers are down everywhere and in every state. I dont mind a lag but the duration of the lag needs to be reasonable. I have no issue with BSP getting 4-5 rajya sabha seats based on them getting 80 seats in the UP assembly polls. It reflects their strength.

Of course they won significantly in 2007 - that mandate was for 5 years. So technically and logically, BSP lost its mandate well and truly in 2012, but they are getting an extra allowance of 3-4 yrs to exercise their opinion by virtue of RS indirect participation. Am sure that a chunk of those are coming to a close very soon. Wouldn't be too bothered about that actually.

If that's the will of the people. similarly if BJP loses massively, it will leverage in RS due to its current good showing as well.
bulbul Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 it should. If that's the will of the people. similarly if BJP loses massively, it will leverage in RS due to its current good showing as well. We cannot just tell its will people.People wanted these parties at certain time but later rejected them, but due to loophole in RS they parties still had some say. End of day if we take this as people's will we don't even need RS as at any time people give mandate using LS to a single party or coalition to rule and take care of country.

Too early to say right now but Raje has passes through a lot of reforms. I feel she continues along this line along with strong RSS organisation Rajasthan hopefully will remain in the BJP kitty for a long time to come. This follows major victories in municipal polls in 2014. http://www.hindustantimes.com/jaipur/bjp-back-with-a-bang-in-rajasthan-civic-polls/article1-1289905.aspx
G_B_ Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 BJP wins all four municipal corporation seats in MP The Bharatiya Janata Party has done it again. The party has once again proved itself by winning in all the four municipal corporations, which went to the polls in Madhya Pradesh on January 31. The best victory by far was in Indore, where the party’s candidate for the post of Mayor Malini Gaur romped home with a margin of 2.47 lakh votes. She polled 6,20,083 votes as against 3,73,487 votes got by the runner up - Congress’s Archana Jaiswal. In Bhopal, the party’s candidate for the post of Mayor, Alok Sharma, beat his nearest rival, Congress’s Kailash Mishra by a margin of 86,000 votes. Mr. Sharma got 4.42 lakh votes and Mr. Mishra 3.56 lakh votes. In the other two municipal corporations of Jabalpur and Chindwara, the BJP’s Mayoral candidates won by margins of 87,000 and 9,600 votes respectively. For Chindwara, it was its first election after being upgraded to a municipal corporation. Municipalities Elections were also held for five municipalities and of them BJP bagged three – Badoni in Dhatiya district, Patera in Damoh district and Chapiheda in Rajgad district. Congress won the remaining two – Bankhedi in Hoshangabad district and Shamshabad in Vidisha district. State BJP President, Nandkumar Singh Chouhan, ascribed the victory to the hard work of the party workers and also the development works that have been undertaken over the past 10 years under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The victories is expected to further strengthen the position of the Chief Minister in the party. Ever since Narendra Modi took over the reins at the Centre, there has been speculations that Mr. Chouhan could also go to the Centre. The impact of the new victories remains to be seen. http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/other-states/bjp-wins-all-four-municipal-corporation-seats-in-madhya-pradesh/article6857141.ece Such a stronghold for the BJP MP is.

G_B_ Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Mamata’s close aide dumps her, walks into BJP camp KOLKATA: Bengali film actor Locket Chatterjee quit Trinamool Congress and joined BJP on Thursday. Perceived as close to chief minister Mamata Banerjee, she quit as member of the state women's commission since she would no longer be with Trinamool. Locket alleged that she felt claustrophobic in the Trinamool and was not able to do the work she wanted to do. About a month ago, Rupa Ganguly, Bengali actor of Mahabharat's Draupadi fame, joined BJP in presence of Union finance minister Arun Jaitley. After inducting Chatterjee into the party fold, BJP state president Rahul Sinha said, "She is an actor with a steady career. She also gave up her post given to her by the state government. She gave up the post to join us. We respect her mindset." http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Mamatas-close-aide-dumps-her-walks-into-BJP-camp/articleshow/46138798.cms
G_B_ Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 BJP way behind in fierce campaign The Bharatiya Janata Party, which entered the fray in the Srirangam by-election claiming to offer an alternative to the Dravidian parties, has been unable to match the intensive campaign launched by the AIADMK and the DMK. With the party’s top rung leaders engrossed in the Delhi polls, the BJP’s campaign has largely been lacklustre. BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan, national secretary H. Raja and Union Minister Pon. Radhakrishnan have made brief visits to the constituency, but drew sparse crowd. Ms. Soundarajan is expected to visit the constituency for a second round of campaigning. Although the BJP has the support of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), its founder Vijayakant is yet to campaign here. BJP functionaries seem to be clueless as to whether Mr. Vijayakant would hit the campaign trail. But they maintain that the ‘Captain’ has deputed his “warriors†to work for the BJP. Having launched the campaign much later than the AIADMK and DMK, the BJP is faced with the tough task of having to penetrate the solid vote bank of the two Dravidian parties, which have gone all out to woo the electorate. But BJP cadre say they are fighting hard. Committees have been constituted at booth-level with coordinators nominated for all the four unions to carry out the campaign. The committee members, along with the DMDK cadre and other allies, have been covering the interior parts of the constituency over the past few days, says a BJP member here. http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/tamil-nadu/bjp-way-behind-in-fierce-campaign/article6863034.ece

G_B_ Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 BJP not to fish in troubled waters Patna: Even though the ruling JD (U) is witnessing intense "internal new bickering," to use senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi's (SuMo) words, the state BJP is in no mood to turn the fluid situation to its advantage. However, the party thinks that the events, in the final count, would pan out to its benefit. The state BJP sources ruled out the possibility of any role for state's governor Keshri Nath Tripathi in the present situation. "The bottom line is that Manjhi has to muster and show his actual strength," said a source. Officially, as SuMo has spelt out, the state BJP has adopted "wait and watch policy". "We are keeping our eyes on the developments within the JD (U), even though it is their internal matter. Our options are open, and we would decide when the circumstances mature," said former minister and state NDA convener Nand Kishore Yadav. Curiously, much as state BJP chief Mangal Pandey, along with Modi, Yadav and other leaders, has regularly claimed that the party is "in constant touch with 50 JD (U) MLAs," the party has distanced itself from playing any active role, as it does not want to be seen as fishing in troubled waters. "They made Jitan Ram Manjhi CM of the state. Now whom to make the CM, whether to change Manjhi or not - all is their internal matter, but the BJP has not closed its eyes on their internal developments," Yadav added. State BJP sources, however, said for their party to take any action to turn the situation to its advantage, "the first initiative has to be made by CM Manjhi." It is another way of saying that Manjhi has to open his cards, showing the actual numerical strength of the JD (U) MLAs and ministers supporting him. A BJP source said if Manjhi has adequate strength among the ministers and the JD (U) MLAs, the BJP would "take immediate decision on the floor of the state assembly." http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/patna/BJP-not-to-fish-in-troubled-waters/articleshow/46149903.cms BJP have 88 members and 3 independents who support them. IF Manjhi can manage to get support of about 20 MLAs then the Bjp have a call to make. Do they support him or not...

That itself would add its vote shares substantially . So wait and watch policy is actually the right move for time being at least in public domain.

IF Manjhi can manage to get support of about 20 MLAs then the Bjp have a call to make. Do they support him or not... Absolutely not IMO. Seeing the upcoming troubles in Janata Praivar, they should try their best to have polls as early as possible so as not to give RJD/JDU/Cong etc time to settle their differences. Also, if they form a Govt with just 4-5 months left to the elections, people will only remember the negative things done in these 5 months because these will be the most recent incidents and Janata Parivar will make full use of the time in the meanwhile.
