might be best if they lose this one seat. Will send a clear message. Much better than losing the assembly in 2017. Disappointed in the BJP UP.

Beleive me, UP is tougher for BJP then WB as far as assembly election is concerned. Giving ticket again to Bajrang Bahadur Singh is one big example of how messed and mis calculated they are. Pharenda constituency is nearby my home, it is a BJP area they could have fielded anyone but instead they gave the ticket to this mafia. You go to any place in Eastern UP, all the BJP stars Adityanath in Gorakhpur, BrihBhusan Saran from Gonda they all are Bahuballis. People are not able to see the difference between BJP, SP and BSP as far as the state unit is concerned. During LokSabha it was only Modi Vs All which did wonders but for state unit it is only confusion and nothing else. Ultimately people will vote on the basis of caste and big Bahuballi of the area. As far as Charkhari is concerned it is mostly area of Lodhi and Kurmis which is the reason why they have given the ticket to Ganga Charan Rajput's son. Isn't this Ganga Charan the same guy who said that he will kill himself if Sonia will not become PM?
what you say is true. Based on this there is 0 difference between SP BJP and BSP

Local heads hardly have any influence now. Mostly it's Om Mathur (state in charge)' date=' Sunil Bansal (Org Secretary) who would tell Shah. The only state leader who would be involved might be State Prez (and on most occasions he just has to go with what's decided). No other state leader is usually consulted on such decisions and any questions asked by seniors are ignored.[/quote'] For BJP, it is exactly as you are saying. For Congress I know it is the Trio of Salman Khurshid, Pramod Tiwari and Rita Bahuguna Joshi who recommends name to the high command and then CWC simply go by their recommendations.

^its not the UP BJP which is to blame for this. Directions to induct outsiders come from the top so local leaders don't have any choice (or voice for that matter) in the issue.

a recepie of disaster. I feel UP election as things stand is a battle between SP and BJP. With SP having the upper hand.

Even during the lok sabha, i was not in favour of planting leaders. For eg Hema Malini. Its was ok Modi contested from Varanasi but local leaders should get the nod. Whats the point of joining the BJP? if you are passed over for a ready made leader?

Out of these 3 the only one who should be in any leadership position in UP Cong is Rita Bahuguna Joshi - she is the best leader they have in the state but is ignored right now.....while the likes of PL Punia are being promoted.

Yes. Winning 8 out of 11 seats in the Sept bye-elections has given confidence to SP and especially to Akhilesh Yadav. There were very strong rumors of many SP MLAs being ready to jump to BJP after the Lok Sabha results but the bye-election results stopped all that talk so yes, SP is the main opponent for BJP right now...but elections are still 2 years away so you never know what may happen by then.

Yeah...she has absolutely no connection to the place. They are just not realizing that this is not a sustainable strategy - someone who is ready to jump from BSP to BJP because BSP is not doing well will do the same to BJP when it is not doing well. And all of the BJP's talk about removing criminals from politics looks BS when they keep inducting criminals (not just criminals but Mafia Dons) from other parties just because they have the "winnability" factor. They already have the example of Delhi as to what happens when local leaders are not taken into confidence and are ignored/insulted and outsiders brought in. Delhi might be a small state but BJP should learn some lessons and stop bringing in these SP/BSP/Cong leaders.

Meanwhile the situation in the VYAPAM scam in MP keeps getting murkier - today the son of MP Gov Ram Naresh Yadav was found dead in his Lucknow house. He was accused in the scam. Cong is saying that Shivraj Chauhan is also involved in the scam - any chance thats true?

The thing with UP is that you can still expect the BSP to poll more than 15% and the Congress to poll about 10%. Pretty confident AAP will poll well in NCR regions. So long as there are no major alliances your talking about 30-35% to form government outright. One of the reasons i feel the BJP are attracting BSP leaders especially is (A) the BJP does not have SC leaders of its own (B) the BSP is in disarray Now obviously the long term solution is to develop strong SC leaders of your own. But that takes time. Todays BJP is not interested in growing in an organic way. They want instant results. What pisses me off more than anything is that they are not only taking leaders of other parties and planted them with seats. These leaders are criminal scum. Its the same in maharashtra, the NCP is an extremely corrupt party. Their members are defecting to the BJP like no tomorrow.

Don’t declare Bihar CM candidate: RSS to BJP

NEW DELHI: Taking lessons from the electoral debacle in Delhi, RSS has conveyed to BJP that the party should not project a CM face in the upcoming Bihar assembly polls. In a meeting of senior RSS and BJP leaders in Lucknow earlier this week - where RSS second in command Suresh 'Bhaiyyaji' Joshi and BJP chief Amit Shah were present - RSS leaders said that initial reports from the state suggested that projecting a face would be counter productive. "RSS shared some of the reports of the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha from Bihar, where some serious points were raised," said a top source in BJP. "While the Lok Sabha polls saw Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar ," said the source. "The Bihar BJP, though strong organisationally, has a serious leadership issue. Sushil Modi is not very popular among other leaders like CP Thakur or Giriraj Singh. During the BJP-JD (U) regime, Singh had loudly opposed Nitish's refusal to allow Modiji to campaign in Bihar and had even revolted against Sushil Modi for being a silent spectator," said a source.

Have the RSS top brass advised BJP to patch-up with Nitish Kumar?

The indication of a thaw in the relationship between the Bihar chief minister and the BJP's top leadership has been in the air for sometime now. Last month, during his visit to Delhi to attend the wedding ceremony of RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s daughter Raj Laxmi at Hotel Ashoka, Nitish had a meeting with Modi in the late hours. Both were captured on camera engrossed in a serious conversation. The meeting took place on 26 February. The very next day, Nitish rushed to the residence of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, his old friend, and had dinner with him after a brief meeting to discuss Bihar’s finances. He is set to meet Prime Minister Modi on 26 March on the sidelines of his meeting with some chief ministers over the Ganga. Reports said Nitish has sought appointment with Modi for a separate meeting with him, shedding his inhibitions.

BJP-TDP alliance wins state legislative council seat

Hyderabad: The ruling TRS in Telangana received a jolt on Wednesday with the opposition BJP-TDP alliance bagging one of the two seats of the legislative council that went to polls on Sunday. The Bharatiya Janata Party's Ramachandra Rao won the election from Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy-Mahabubnagar graduates' constituency, defeating his nearest rival Devi Prasad of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi by 13,318 votes.
seems the BJP is making inroads into Hyderabad.

Sena-BJP bury hatchet, form alliance for elections

AURANGABAD: Learning from the bitter experience of the state assembly elections, the ruling Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have decided to set aside their differences and fight the upcoming Aurangabad and Navi Mumbai civic body elections together. The two parties are likely to announce the seat-sharing by weekend after a meeting of top leaders. The BJP is keen to get four more seats than those it contested in the last civic election but the Shiv Sena has to agree to give up its claim. The parting of ways ahead of the state assembly elections last October dealt a heavy blow to the Shiv Sena, which lost much ground to the BJP in the state. The BJP emerged as the single largest party in the state with 122 seats, while the Sena had to comfort itself with just 63 seats. The Sena is especially jittery about the inroads the Hyderabad-based All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen has made in Aurangabad. The MIM candidate secured a margin of over 20,000 votes to win from Aurangabad central assembly constituency, which is considered a traditional Sena bastion. A senior BJP leader said despite the differences between the two parties, the Sena does not have any option but forge an alliance in continuation of the support it has extended to the former ally at the Centre and the state. Both parties have formed committees comprising senior leaders to draw up the seat sharing arrangement. BJP's committee comprises MLA Atul Save, former MLC Kishanchand Tanwani, city unit president Bapu Ghadamode and Bhagwat Karad, while Sena is being represented by former MLA Pradeep Jaiswal, district president Ambadas Danve and Suhas Dashrathe. In the last civic elections, the BJP and the Sena had contested 40 and 59 seats, respectively. The BJP bagged 15, while the Sena bagged 27 seats. This time around, the BJP is keen on contesting 53 seats, while the Sena wants to contest at least 69 or 70 seats of the 113 municipal wards. Tanwani, who left the Sena to contest the assembly elections on BJP ticket, told TOI, "We are in favour of alliance with Shiv Sena for the civic body polls. Three rounds of meetings with Sena representatives have been completed and we are in the final stage of deciding seat-sharing formula. We want four more seats than what is being offered us." Sena leaders were also optimistic of the formation of the alliances and said the official announcement is likely to come by the weekend. "We are discussing the seat sharing and it is for sure that we are going to go have alliance with BJP for the civic body elections here. After the meeting with the BJP representatives, the outcome will be communicated to the party high command and they will announce the decision by the weekend," Danve said.
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/aurangabad/Sena-BJP-bury-hatchet-form-alliance-for-elections/articleshow/46696174.cms why do i get the feeling the BJP and Sena will fail to meet a number and the MIM Congress and NCP will prosper? Better to fight it alone and see if they can come for a post poll understanding. This is a repeat of the assembly elections.... I feel if the BJP and Sena fight alone they will either come 1/2 respectively. So its better to go all out before hand.

BJP to field RSS directly in Kerala

New Delhi: In the background of severe factionalism in the Kerala unit of the BJP, the RSS will directly supervise 18 constituencies during the assembly election. The decision was taken at a meeting of state leaders convened by BJP national president Amit Shah. Breaking precedent, RSS’s saha prantha pracharak in the state, K.K. Balaram, attended the meeting of leaders held at the BJP headquarters. Shah severely criticised groups led by V. Muraleedharan and P.K. Krishnadas for factionalism. Shah requested the RSS leadership to take the responsibility of the election because state leaders were not willing to stop factionalism despite continuously losing in elections. Since both factions are trying to undermine each other, Shah asked the state unit of the RSS to protect BJP candidates. He has given the instruction to find suitable candidates by May for the 18 constituencies where the BJP can present stiff competition and submit a report. Nominees of organisations such as NSS, SNDP and KPMS would be given seats with a chance of victory. Candidates from the fields of arts and culture will also be considered. The desire of the central leadership is that young leaders like M.T. Ramesh, Sobha Surendran and K. Surendran, who fought well in the previous Lok Sabha election, and former presidents like Krishnadas, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai and C.K. Padmanabhan, and the incumbent president, Muraleedharan, should contest. If O. Rajagopal is keen on contesting, irrespective of his advanced age, he would be made a candidate again.
http://english.manoramaonline.com/news/politics/bjp-to-field-rss-directly-in-kerala.html Will be interesting to see how the RSS manage to get on in Kerela. they put in a good performance I can see them taking over BJP election activities in many states with no major BJP presence. In the lok sabha BJP got about 10% of the vote. If the BJP can maintain that vote share and also break their duck I feel the RSS will play an extremely active front-line role.

BJP still seems unable to break any ground in Kerala. Wonder why that is the case. Sure, the state does have a high proportion of minorities, but BJP isn't even successful at getting the majority vote. Perhaps they are still perceived as a North Indian party? Or Brahmin Party?

well atleast 1 seat would be nice....to have 0 seats its a disgrace for a national party. Quite frankly its remarkable the BJP got 282 seats when it has 0 to limited presence in nearly 20% of the electorate. No major presence in TN (though they have won seats in the assembly before but only cause of their alliance partner) united Andhra, west bengal , orissa, kerala, a large number of north east states. Works out to about 250 million people. If the BJP want to remain in power for long period than it is imperative that inroads are made failing that alliances are made in the short term in these states. The BJP currently have 6 seats in these states (TN, Odisha, WB, Kerala Telangana and Andhra Pradesh). In 2019 you need to aim for getting 20 seats as i doubt you can score big in UP and Bihar as the BJP did last time. You need something to buffer the inevitable loss in these states. The BJP IMO in TN closer to time of 2019 needs to make a choice in TN between the DMK and AIADMK. No point going in this third front and getting 2 seats. They might as well combined with one of these two major regional parties.

Yes, the LS results in North and West India for BJP were a once in a lifetime kind of results. You won't see those repeated no matter how good the governance is. WB, I think should be a big target. For TN, I don't see much hope other than hoping to tie up with Amma. AP again looks very unlikely to vote BJP if they don't have the right alliance partner. In Kerala, they won't get any partner. This is where they need to concentrate along with WB to get more organic votes for BJP.

TN, AP and Telgana they need strong alliance partners. Potentially parties willing to ally with them Orissa, West Bengal and Kerala they need to get seats on own strength. Of the three WB has the most promise. Orissa is a BJD stronghold. Kerala they are building from nothing. In TN for example if Amma gives the BJP 5-6 seats for 2019 (there is a good chance she wont and will go alone) , i feel its a good offer and they should take it. If the DMK offer the BJP 10 seats they should take it. What you want is for the DMK and AIADMK to be relatively close for the BJP's vote % to matter. Unlike the congress who can get away with governing the country with 145 seats with a series of "secular" parties . IMO the BJP need about 200 seats as a bare minimum to run a coalition with existing NDA partners and outside parties ready to work with the BJP such as the TRS BJD and AIADMK. (combined strength of 67 currently).
