^ They had 68 members . TMC and DMK and all the SICKularwadis opposed it during the winter session of 2013 when the FM met with Arun Jaitley ' date=' Sushma Swaraj and Yashwant Sinha . PM MMS public statements for support from the main national parties are available .[/quote'] They could have passed it in Lok Sabha without much effort, they did not even do that. It was a negotiating tactic. With some negotiation, BJP may have agreed to 49%, but the Congress did not even try. Compare the negligible efforts that Congress made, to what the BJP did - an ordinance and then pushed through a copy of the bill in Lok Sabha even though it was pending in Rajya Sabha and finally passed it in Rajya Sabha as well. The Congress on the other hand, backed down and sent the bill to a committee.

You can blame the Cong for not trying hard enough but that will not explain BJP's opposition to the FDI hike and subsequent U-TURN will it ? BJP did not oppose because Cong was not trying hard enough , their main reason for opposition was the hike in FDI cap from 26% to 49%
68 + 25 those are still big numbers. They should have won over the BSP. That point still stands. No doubt the BJP stance on this issue is a U-turn which is why we need to thank the Modi administration and not the BJP

Just to prove my point The BJP seems have to brokered a deal with the BJD and the ADMK on many issues http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-others/parliament-approves-long-pending-insurance-bill-allows-49-fdi/ The ADMK did vote for the land bill as well. So if it does go down to a joint session you can expect the BJP to get the land bill through. I get a feeling with the congress, nobody respected MMS and Gandhis did not want to get involved.

The SP, BSP, JD(U) and DMK staged a walkout after members opposing the bill made their point. But the Congress, NCP, BJD and AIADMK stood by the government which also had the support of allies Shiv Sena and Akali Dal.

Govt refuses to divulge under an RTI application about the amount of money spent on foreign visits made by PM

"Information sought is too vague and wide." That was the response from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) to an RTI application about the amount of money spent on foreign visits made by Prime Minister.... In 2011, the Central Information Commission instructed the cabinet secretariat to disclose the amount spent on the travel of ministers and VVIPs because of 'large public interest' in the matter. Though the PMO now stonewalled queries related to the money spent on Modi's foreign tours, in 2013 it disclosed the amount spent on the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's air travels expenses -- Rs 642 crore in nine years. The amount was revealed under the mandatory proactive disclosure clause of the RTI Act.
LINK If PMO could reveal in 2013 what has changed now ? they could have revealed the expenses info under the same parameters they released earlier. Acche din for transparency.

IndiaSpeaks ‏@IndiaSpeaksPR 9m9 minutes ago Kerala keeps aside 5 cr for citizens who have converted to Christianity Or as the #AdarshLisberal would say, the Idea of Secularism!
So I guess it's a fantastic news for our liberals? Will there ever be any debate or outrage over such developments in LS/RS? Overall, these things have been happening over decades and it's destroying our nation from the inside. Can we have a debate over it or at least recognize such serious problems by our media?

^^ National Overseas Scholarship for Minorities is a scheme under Ministry of Minority Affairs of GOVT OF INDIA . It is implemented through the State Govt./UT Administration. ** The SICKular BJP Govt of Madhya Pradesh has a similar portal for this minority Scholarship scheme. "Padho Pardesh" is a CENTRAL GOVT Scheme of Interest Subsidy on Educational Loans for Overseas Studies for the Students Belonging to the Minority Communities. The Central Govt had over 10 months to scrap these subsidies and it has chosen NOT to do so. SC/ST/OBC's are also being provided similar subsidies /scholarships and interest free loans. We hope better sense prevails in the modi govt in the future , though i would not bet on it. One of the 1st actions of the Modi Govt was to extend INterest-free loans (Free Money) and subsidies to sugar manufacturers .

I don't think so. It is a government of Karnataka scheme introduced by the muslim appeasing Khangress govt. Please provide some link to prove otherwise.

All relevant information has been offered. A simple google search would have sufficed. National Scholarship Scheme is a central Govt Scheme and it is implemented through the states. MOMA ->LINK State wise allocation and sanction is also mentioned : http://www.minorityaffairs.gov.in/Postmetric/ You can see how much the SICKular Govts of Gujarat , Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka (the Yeddy Years) have allocated since 2007 for this scheme . Pado Pradesh Central Govt Interest subsidy for Minority OVERSEAS educational loans -> http://www.minorityaffairs.gov.in/padho_pardesh. We had hoped that PM modi , who espoused Conservative economic policies of min Govt and Max governance (before the elections), would eliminate all these SUBSIDIES and FREEBIES . But he has failed to do so. We can hope better sense prevails over the next few years but i doubt it . This Govt is not interested in subsidy reduction.

You had written the following:

There is no scheme run by the Central govt called "National Overseas Scholarship for Minorities". It is a Karnataka govt scheme. On the larger point. Yes, the Modi govt has not eliminated subsidies. But it has reduced funding for them. As for as minority appeasement, the schemes that you mention are from the UPA times. BJP at least did not introduce any new ones, which would have happened under Khangress or secular or even AAP. Forget that, the Congress had proposed a Communal Violence Bill which would have discriminated amongst riot victims according to religion. Thank God that the BJP exists and opposed it so that Hindus were not further discriminated against by law. BJP may not usher in Hindu rashtra, but at least it wont turn India into a dhimmified mughalistan which is the aim of Khangress and other "secular" parties. More than enough reason for a Hindu to vote BJP and avoid Khanress/AAP/sickulars like a plague.

Cong did NOT have majority support on the bill . The COMMUNISTS and the LEFTISTS just like BJP opposed the FDI hike for 6 years. It is good to see Cong did not behave like them and provided essential support to the bill. Cong has remained consistent on it's stand of FDI hike .
Not true, Congress and BJP both made u-turns, the 49% FDI in Insurance was proposed by Yashwant Sinha first. This is the timeline: CAHTZX5U0AA6tSc.jpg:large

The timeline does not contradict my comment that Cong has been consistent in the matter of FDI hike to 49% as opposed to BJP. Whether mr. yahswant sinha proposed first is irrelevant . The 2011 parliamentary standing commitee was headed by Mr.Sinha and he opposed the FDI hike. When the time came to support it with his vote , when the time came to walk the talk ...he Opposed it along with his party ( explicitly citing his opposition to the FDI hike.)

Dec 2013 : BJP against hiking FDI cap to 49 per cent in insurance sector Link
My original point is the similar to the one being made by Mr.Shankar Aiyyar in his article "The point is the cost of lost opportunities." Narrow minded selfish political interests has led to adverse economic consequences for the Nation.

Strange logic you have. Congress opposed the hike to 49% when it was proposed by Yashwant Sinha during the Vajpayee regime, because of Congress it was limited to 26%. The BJP paid the Congress back in the same coin by opposing the hike when it was proposed by the UPA. The original sinner was the Congress - it could have agreed to the hike during the Vajpayee era itself, and saved the country 15 years of wrangling over it. All credit to Narendra Modi who finally pushed through the reform which was originally stalled by the Congress.

Cases will go on for years without any result. It needs to be brought to mainstream media attention, but they are all very busy tracking what are sadhvis are saying so that they can run hours of TV debate.
