He is fairly lame in ODIs too. Rarely does he bat like Ponting or Gillchrist in full flow- sachin these days, always edges a few, gets outfoxed by a few and what not, regardless of whether he makes runs or not. His immaculate innings, the sort that Ponting,Kallis, etc. play today is a thing in history. But he still gets runs in ODIs, so i am definitely not for dropping him there- nomatter how much he scratches around.
:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Post of the day. Did you see the last game? Did you see the Ind Eng series? Did you see the India SA series? The only time he struggled recently in ODI's was that time against the aussies. But he fought it out, made a 90?(not sure). He ended up being our top scorer(by a long way) in that series. Bongo, log on to CVU, and see the highlights of the last game..:haha:

Yes. I saw him nearly getting owned TWICE in the first 5 overs. Did you miss that ?
Oh, so he played a grand total of 2 ball, in an innings of nearly an hundred, and so his batting is lame? Great. :haha:

Yes, it is lame, because greats, when they are in the zone, play flawlessly till they are out. Tendy used to play like that- where from ball1 he looked like he's been batting for 3 hours. Not a false stroke, not a half-chance no nothing till he got out. Currently, Ponting, Gilly, Kallis, Peitersen etc. play like that. Tendy no longer does, since he is no longer in that top bracket. he plays like others, who always nearly get owned by a couple of balls, get a lucky reprive etc. when they score big. His batting is no longer pleasant to watch but in ODIs, he can still score runs.

Peiterson:hysterical: So basically you're trying to tell me that Ponting, Gilly, Kallis, and Peiterson dont play and miss for even 2 balls in a hundred run innings? :hysterical:

They have a few 100-run innings every now and then that are flawless till dismissal/end of innings. Tendy hasn't played a flawless innings in nearly 5 years.

OK. So the innings against SA werent flawless. Cool. Look at this for a moment. Both are openers here, so that part of the equation is the same. In his last 30 games, Gilly has scored 888 runs, at an average of 31.71 In his last 30 games, Tendy has scored 1269 runs, at an average of 47. Yes, tendu sucks in ODI's, and Gilly is in the top bracket.

Why are you twisting my words ? I said Gilly is top bracket because he is one of the most effective openers out there- 35-36 average with 95-96 strike rate...just as useful as 45 average and 85 strike rate IMO. Point is, Tendy hasnt played a single flawless innings for 5-6 years. The batsmen who are still great (and not faded-great like Tendy) every now and then play a totally flawless innings. Take for example Ponting.

Where did I twist your words? You didnt say why gilly is in the top bracket.... all you said was... "Tendy used to play like that- where from ball1 he looked like he's been batting for 3 hours. Oh, and BTW, 5-6 years hmm. 98* against Pakistan was 4 years ago. Also, please remind me of the "flaws" in the SA innings?

98* ??? you mean 98 in 2003 world cup vs Paks, where Tendy french-cut one nearly onto his stumps, nearly got out caught to Razzaq off Akram ( Razzaq fumbled) and finally Shoaib cleaned him up ? Sorry, that was nowhere close to being a flawless innings. Flaws in SA innings- Ntini had him edging a few through to third man. Sachin simply cannot play flawlessly anymore.

and Gilly can?

I am prepared to bet that you havent watched all the innings of those guys you mentioned and are probably just going by what u see on some highlights packages and cricinfo. I , living in Australia for the past 17 years, have seen every ball of Australia's home matches, and over the past few years since I have got foxtel (Australia's cable TV package) have seen all there away matches. I can honestly say, that I have not seen a flawless innings from Ponting, Gilchrist or any of the Australians other than a quickfire 30 or 40. Even Gilchrist's world cup final performances had its fair share of luck, as did Pontings one in 2003. Can you find me an innings by any of those guys over the past few years in which they werent beaten once, didnt edge it once, didnt play an uppish stroke once, didnt present a chance once, werent given a lucky umpiring reprieve? I am going to bet that you cant. By the way sachin fans ... I think we can stop with our defence of him. When the quality of arguments against him have reached this low of a level, it becomes a bit embarrassing to even have to respond to that. All we can do is laugh and watch as he keeps proving them more and more wrong.

No, i've seen a couple of innings of Ponting, Hayden,Kallis,Gillchrist,Peitersen etc. in recent memory- the entire innings- which was flawless.

If you cannot see that Sachin no longer bats like the best in the world and that he is NOT in the best category anymore on current/past few years standing, i cannot help but call you a blind Sachin fan. It is clear that Tendu is no longer a 'great player', he is merely a good player in ODIs and pretty mediocre in tests.

If you are trying to say that Sachin is not among the top 2 or 3 batsman at the moment then yes I agree. However, in ODIs on form ... he is definately in the top 10. By the way ... can u actually name any of the innings. Ill be interested to see what innings you name because I have seen 90% of Kallis and Pietersen innings over the past 2 years and 100% of Hayden, Ponting and Gilchrist innings over the past 5 or 6 years. But anyway ... can u name a flawless innings by them in recent memory.

In tests, he is not amongst the top 10 batsmen, in ODIs, he is barely in the top 10.

Will have to double-check for exact match details.

I thought we were talking about ODIs.
We are ? Okay then- in ODIs, Tendy is barely in the top 10 today/out of top 10. Lemme see who i'd rate over Tendy in ODIs today: Ponting, Hayden, Symonds, Hussey, KP, Sarwan, Smith, Kallis, Yousuf, Yuvraj. Sorry, thats 10 right there- so not even in top 10.

^ Well thats your opinion. There is no point me trying to dispute your opinion because everyone is entitled to them. He is the 2nd highest run scorer in ODIs this year, and is currently ranked 10th in the ICC odi player rankings (btw. Kallis is ranked 16th and Yuvraj 17th atm) Anyway ... lets see if u can show me a flawless innings (over 70+ runs as the cut-off) by the people u mentioned above in recent memory.

I predict that he will average over 40 overall in the 7 tests against Pak and OZ. Do you think otherwise?
Last 6 tests/10 innings - 590 runs, 2 100s, 4 50s. Average 85 :two_thumbs_up::two_thumbs_up: When in his worst slump and allegedly finished as a batter, he puts up numbers like these against Pak and the toughest test for a bat, OZ in OZ. :top:
