Well if you’ve got the ability to bowl 142-147 and end up bowling 134-140, then that’s a problem for me. It either tells me that you’re struggling with fitness/rhythm or you’re just not wanting to put in the extra intensity. I’d probably replace him after one more opportunity if this is what he’s gonna dish out.

True.

 

And it has been the case since Mid 2022 when Bumrah started having back issues and stopped hitting the deck hard. Even after his return, he is just interested in swing and not bounce. 

 

Add to this the fact that Shami is old and does not want hit the deck hard either in the last 18 months or so. 

 

Siraj can hit the deck hard for bounce but has looked a bit distracted in this WC.

 

In the absence of a 145 k+ pacer who is ready to play for India, we needed someone like Prasidh who can get steep bounce at 137 k to 147 k and has a much higher release point.

 

This pace attack just depends on movement and deception to get wickets. 

 

With a long tourment in progress, pacers are bowling within themselves too.

Frankly speaking, Siraj is more of a Fast-medium pacer who can bowl genuinely Fast only when in good rhythm. 

 

Bumrah is the one who could bowl those 142 k to 147 k/ 148 k spells on demand even after his 1st back injury. And hit the deck really hard. 

 

After return from his 2nd back injury, Bumrah's quicker spells have become 138 k to 143 k / 144 k. He is slower by about 4 kph and getting less bounce as he is not hitting the deck hard enough. And this is a problem if the ball is not moving. 

 

P.S .. Bumrah looked visually quick today, but his yorkers are not beating the batsmen for pace, to get wickets, like it used to earlier.

Bumrah bowled just ONE bouncer in his 1st spell of 4 overs.

I hope Bumrah gets back to doing that. There will be times especially in tests when the batters are set and the pitch is dead. In places like Australia he needs to get going at 90 mph spells. 
The problem is that once you get into this mindset of focussing more on swing and variations at the expense of pace, it becomes a habit. So I’m doubtful. I’d start looking for bowlers of the other type to complement the attack.

After the WC, India need to try Harshit, Sen and Mayank Y along with Prasidh who is already in the mix. 

 

And hope that Umran and Tyagi start bowling better in domestics.  Tyagi is still bowling hot spells regularly but there is something wrong with Umran at the moment.

He probably has the best hostile bouncer in India now and wants to bowl them regularly too.
