huh? just 2 major teams vs 4 .

and moreover at Home

SRT vs Aus : Avg = 54 Pont vs Ind : Avg = 38

and Aus has always had better bowlers than Ind ...

complete Ownage.

Ponting in ODIs against India in India averages MORE than Sachin all his ODI career ( werent you the guy who keeps harping India is the toughest place to get runs ?? in SL Ponting outscores Sachin, in Pak Ponting outscores sachin, In NZ, Ponting outscores sachin, in SA Ponting outscores sachin, in Eng Ponting outscores Sachin....against all these teams in their backyards...so what do you say ??

In case you didn't see, Ponting's overall average against India is 42 +...and considering it is 38 in Aus... you know how he had performed in the subcontinent... now who says Ponting hasn't been successful in the subcontinent, he far outscores Sachin in the 4 countries here

Nitpicking .... is what it is ... because you are essentially saying that SRT's Worldcup Record in SAF and Eng is crap because he never played against the hosts of those WCups. Same thing for other tournaments.
Even comparing WC performances. 1999: Ponting avg 39.33, Sachin 42 ( including 140 n.o against Kenya) 2003 : Ponting avg 53, Sachin 59 2007 : Ponting avg 67, Sachin 32 ( including 57 n.o against Bermuda) Ponting has far better scores against SERIOUS opponents in WCs and has helped Aus win 3 WCs... Sachin ( if you take away scores against minnows) has fared much poorer than Ponting and hasn't helped India to a single WC win

Ponting is a failure IN INDIA ( in Tests ) ..... they dont play ALL ODIs at the same Test match venues in India and they prepare a different pitch for ODIs.
Ponting in tests in India is a failure. But he averages 50 + in SL and 119 in pakistan...not at all bad. But what about the fact Ponting overall outscores Sachin ( in his first 112 tests)... in terms of avg, aggregate, 100s and 50s too, all over the world

@ Hari, its so painful to see u putting some inconsequentional stats to underrate SRT.. its not about the runs he scored..its about the pressure he had to go through the last twelve years or so... Ponnting virtually has no pressure wat so ever so hos success can not be compared with God..as u know thats how i like to call him!

In almost EVERY analysis Ponting far outscores Sachin, both in ODIs and in tests

What pressure on Sachin ? With batters in the Indian lineup scoring tens of thousands of runs, and with Sachin playing almost half or much more games on Indian tracks....his stats are much more inflated and there is no question of pressure ( and anyways why should "god" be affected by pressure) lol

I don't think warne is a better spinner than Murali... Murali is FAR superior.... and if you are going to quote wisden... let me point out that NOT EVEN ONE inngs of Sachin has been rated even in the top 100 test or ODI inngs by wisden
What I meant if you follow Murali's career he was also a late bloomer like ponting who was good but not great during first 5 years of his career but like murali once he picked up he didnt stop. But Impact which tendulkar and Warne stayed with fans media , so still people feel Warne is better bowler and Tendulkar a better batsman. But ponting record in india is awful

He has played a Grand Total of ONE Test IN Pakistan ... very comprehensive indeed. And SRT avgs 111 in SL :haha: SRT's first 112 Tests were during the 90s when the Bowling was at an Alltime high. Pontings avg during the 90s is a pathetic 44 in 33 Test matches .... and it dipped even further to just barely above 40 during the middle of the 2001 ashes series .... by which time he had played 45 Test matches. Only after the retirement of Donald,Walsh,Amby,2 Ws has he been able to pile on the runs .. plus he had the luxury of being in the same side as McWarne. in 2000

SRT 69 114 5448 53.41 15 24
Pon 79 134 7416 65.62 27 28
in the 90s

SRT 69 109 5626 58.00 22 21
PON 33 52 2092 44.51 6 10

Tendulkar before 2000 and Ponting before 2000, playing against pakistan , SA and windies. Against Windies before 2000 : Sachin 62 , Ponting 40 Against Pakistan before 2000. Ponting 63, Sachin 33 Against SA before 2000. Ponting 50, Sachin 32 So there goes your hocus pocus theory of Tendulkar scoring in a "big way" in the 1990s against Windies , SA and pakistan ( Donald, Walsh, Ambrose, 2 Ws etc ). And as to your theory that Ponting "failed" against these teams in the 1990s... see the above stats...overall in the 1990s, Ponting has done far better than Sachin against the same "high quality attacks" from the same 3 countries you mentioned. Whereas Sachin has been a failure in tests against pakistan and SA attacks of the 1990s.

first of all thats all home except for one test match. secondly there was only one match were the 2 Ws played and your hero got a pair in that match. there was one match in Perth where he made a big 100 (No Waqar) which is why his avg is respectable. But otherwise he has 3 Ducks in 4 matches ... Against SAF : Only 2 matches where Donald played and one hundred in that ... SRT has 3 100s IN SAF against Donald and he was at his absolute best between 1991-92 to about 1996/97
They include ALL games, both home and away. In Ricky Ponting's case even home games against Wasim , Akthar, Donald, Ambrose, Walsh etc are LOTS tougher as these bowlers bowl on Aussie wkts. But the point is whatever you quoted about the pre 2000 record of both players against Pakistan, Windies and SA....it is clear Ponting scores over Sachin here too

Ponting's record against Pakistan is way ahead of Sachin. Ponting averages 81 against Pakistan , almost double that of Sachin at 42. Ponting's performances were all against Waseem , Akthar and co , mostly on Aussie tracks and he has done brilliantly against Akthar on Perth wickets. Sachin has played all his cricket against Pakistan quicks on subcontinental conditions, and has scored just ONE hundred when playing against Akthar( and that was on the back of a Sehwag 300) Ponting has got 197 , 98, 62 and 207 in Perth and Sydney against Akthar, Wasim and also other big hundreds in the subcontinent against Pakistan So, if it comes to express pace on lightning quick pitches, Ponting is twice as good as Sachin

Ponting will never be in same league as Tendulkar. Ponting has to score in India to be considered anywhere near..He chickened out last time and came back only when series was secured.

Except his test record in India, Ponting has very comfortably outperformed Tendulkar in every other setting, in tests. In ODIs, Tendulkar averages between 25 and 36 in at least 5 countries, and so here too there is no comparision. Even in ODIs in India, Ponting's avg is higher than Tendulkar's career avg
