rkt.india Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 The former lawyer of the Mumbai model, who filed a case of rape against DIG Sunil Paraskar, has made startling claims, saying she admitted to him about the plot to create a controversy to participate in a television show. Model's former lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui said he quit the case as he got the feeling that the case was filed for publicity. "My client (model) kept changing her statements. She didn't share entire information with me. I got the feeling that client was filing case for publicity. So, I backed out of the case," he said. The Mumbai Police recorded Siddiqui's statements on Monday. He also submitted a CCTV footage of his meeting with the model, corroborating his claim. In the CCTV footage, authenticity of which India Today cannot confirm, the model and the lawyer were seen discussing the case. The model was apparently talking to the lawyer about creating a big controversy so that she is chosen for a reality show that features controversial people as contestants. The model in the footage was also seen as saying that she wanted to harass the officer. She also wanted to defame Poonam Pandey. Following the model's complaint of rape and molestation, Paraskar was booked under IPC Sections 376(2)(rape by a police officer), 376 C (intercourse by superintendent of jail, remand home, etc) and 354 (D) (stalking) at Malwani Police Station on July 23. According to the model, Agarwal had in December 2013 dropped Paraskar outside a mall in suburban Malad in his vehicle. The emails, sent a month before the complainant filed an FIR, suggest that she was warning Paraskar to go public with her complaint. This chain of e-mails was exchanged since June 27, a month before the FIR was registered. In these emails, the complainant accused Paraskar of being in touch with her professional rival, Poonam Pandey and sharing her pictures with her. She claimed that Poonam, who is her professional rival, would show these messages to Bollywood producers and directors to tarnish her image. However, Paraskar pleaded with her, saying he had neither met anybody called Poonam Pandey nor spoke to her, the police officer said, quoting emails exchanged between Paraskar and the model in June. The 57-year-old Deputy Inspector General Sunil Paraskar (Protection of Civil Rights Unit) is at present posted at the Maharashtra Police Headquarters. Investigators have identified two places, including a bungalow in Madh Island in suburban Mumbai, as well as a flat in neighbouring Navi Mumbai where the alleged incidents had taken place. Paraskar has been questioned twice so far. Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena, in its party mouthpeice, Saamna has come out in strong defence of Paraskar. "It has become fashionable to level charges of harassment and rape, which leads to a trial by the media. The case is being sensationalised because Paraskar is a respected police officer. Police should not become a party to sensationalism. Why was there a delay of 6 months in filing the case? "Who is this model, what is her background? How come the relationship between the two was fine until she leveled the rape charges?" read an editorial in Saamna. Mumbai Crime Branch is also likely to conduct a lie-detection test on Paraskar to ascertain the veracity of certain facts. It will also oppose the officer's attempts to secure an extension of the interim relief from arrest. While the Congress has come out in strong criticism of the statements made in Saamna and demanded an unequivocal apology from the Shiv Sena, Yuva Sena leader Aditya Thackeray came out in support of Shiv Sena saying, "There is not a question of siding with anyone. The truth in accusations must come out. However, it is important trials are conducted by the courts and NOT media.
