CSK Fan Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 So who replaces Dhoni? Pujara? Kohli? Rahane? Mooli? GG? How does it matter? What awesome record Dhoni had when he became test captain?
CSK Fan Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Michael Clarke during the 4-0 made a lot of odd statements as well. Cook to be fair i agree. But looking hurt and giving a good PC is not the only metric. What happened to Cook in the ashes? If any of them had sucked as long as Dhoni, both would have been history a long time ago. Cook is as bad as Dhoni IMO, it is only the Indian team and Dhoni showing him in a better light.
CSK Fan Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Man, I don't know in what other million dollar job do people get to hear, hey it is all right if you fail for three years. We just suck so please continue, we will still pay you

We just suck so please continue, we will still pay you[/quote'] Cook may be bad tactically but at least has some shame he had said this series result would decide his fate and the way he talked and even batted showed he wants it.But this guy dhoni is a guttersnipe.
Crookbond Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 1.What changed after lords ?We seemed satisfied after a test win overseas it was evident when Dhoni says we are improving after losing from winning positions in last sa and nz tour.We went defensive and tried to protect the lead which in a 5 match series will backfire. 2.:hysterical: Eng have better depth and players to fall back on they have been hammered by every team on the planet recently.England have huge problems with only balance, bell looking good and 2 bowlers its how pathetic our slip fielding and catching has been. 3.Problem is not pankaj been given a game but at 30 more like 32 he is at end of his career so never expected much.Umesh yadav non selection just shows captain and selectors are jokers. 4.Fact is When the captain stays with out accountability it percolates down to the whole team. The Moron dhoni has the audacity to say its good we lost in 3 days. 5.Its Okay we loose but with a fight which is missing. 6.Dhoni slog in 2nd innings was a disgrace and shows how selfish he is ,What can youngsters learn form such a moron. Kaunsa hammering by every team bhai? They only lost the Ashes 5-0, a different team. They lost 1 Test match to SL, drew 1 when they couldn't pick the last wicket.

sensible-indian Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 And people talk about energy. Dhoni was the only batsman in both innings i saw with some intent and energy out there. Pujara keep blocking till he gets out. Kohli has been in **** form since the IPL. Lets be frank, India dont have a good record outside home. Even in places like Sri lanka we have won a series only once. Why did India fail to win a series abroad from 1996 to 2004. When most of our legends were in place? Sachin Laxman Dravid Ganguly Kumble. All were playing for India. ?? Did these guys immediately step up and improve India's record overseas? The answer is no. It took them a while to get to grips with test cricket and we started improving drastically 2004 onwards which carried on till 2011 England series post 2011 world cup. We never lost this hopelessly without putting up a fight before. In the 90's when we lost, our batsman just didn't have the skills. That's not the case now. We have skills to play and win matches overseas. Just need to get things right. Sometimes captains get stale and they need to be replaced. Dhoni averages 18 in Australia so if we are planning to go with him to Australia later this year, we are automatically going with 1 batsman short. Add in 5 bowlers and our batting becomes super weak even before we land on Australia. I feel there is nothing wrong in going for a fresh new captain when WI tour us and for the Australia tour. Anyway we are losing 0-4. We might as well try something. Who knows things may change. I would recommend Pujara as a temporary captain.
sensible-indian Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Call me crazy but I honestly feel Ashwin would be the real deal when it omes to captaincy but right now, his spot isn't 100% confirmed.
Crookbond Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Losing to srilanka at home' date='5-0 aus,Saved against nz.[/quote'] 5-0 is the only hammering they have got. The losing to SL was hard fought - had them 9 wickets down in the 1st Test IIRC. In NZ too, they had a close game where effectively Matt Prior bailed them out. England have been doing this since a long time - Cardiff (Collingwood/Anderson/Panesar), South Africa (Collingwood). This isn't a hammering like you suggested. A 5-0 in Ashes was one, there was no other hammering apart from the 3-0 Pakistan UAE (2012) that I remember England having. Not that I should add, but most of it were different teams. The morale was down for Cook but others were relatively new to the setup.

I get your point about Dhoni and I agree that its time for a change in Tests/ODIs and T20s alike but lets not make up things to inflate our argument.

We are truly terrible.
G_B_ Posted August 11, 2014 Author Posted August 11, 2014 and people are missing the point of this thread wtf has Dhoni's captaincy got to do with Pujara and Kohli's form? You cant win major series with such a weakness at the heart of your batting.
sensible-indian Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Actually i remember our tour to Australia when we lost 3-0. We are truly terrible. Yes but did you see our lineup then? Kanitkar and Vijay Bharadwaj were there. Right now we have the ability. We may have screwed up the last 2 Test matches big time but no one could deny that this batting has ability.

You cant win major series with such a weakness at the heart of your batting. If those were the only problems we faced, no one would question Dhoni. But that's not the case. Dhoni captaincy left a lot to be desired. His move in Southampton was a major blow and our batting finished it off.

CSK Fan Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Why are we arguing over this when the team itself doesn't care. Let's have some peace

You cant win major series with such a weakness at the heart of your batting. Of course, nobody is denying that Dhoni's captaincy is not the ONLY problem with Indian cricket. There are several others. But it is one that has been a constant since 2011 and should have been fixed then. The selectors publicly stated they wanted to fire Dhoni, but Srini personally stepped in even though it was outside his remit. And after 3 years of disasters in test cricket overseas, he is still captain.

By my own estimates probably 8 of the playing 11 at OT and Ages bowl would be the best india have. Yes the captaincy is an issue but the margin of victories for England have shown that its something much more fundamental.
