Read a lot of posts on this forum and many others. Some blame Fletcher, some blame Dhoni and some claim that the Indian players just dont want it enough. So what changed after lords? Flatter pitches with bounce. Bounce being the key word and England having better depth and players to rally back. The truth is barring maybe Ishant (who was injured) (i cant believe I am saying this) every member of that team probably represented the best the country has to offer. Are there any better young batsman in Indian domestics than Kohli Pujara Rahane or even Rohit? The answer is no. Did Punkaj Singh deserve a shot? The answer is yes. He has been a leading wicket taker for his ranji side. Are there any outstanding options apart from him? The answer is no. Somebody like Dhawal Kulkarni is probably at the same level of Punkaj although a better batsmand and fielder. Bumrah is just to raw atm. Umesh Yadav remains an enigma. Is there an outstanding spinner? Again. I cant see a standout spinner averaging under 25. Till the likes of Pujara, Rohit, Rahane and Kohli et al. Learn to seize the game by its throat India are going to be terrible away from home. The truth is India will always have a tough time winning away outside the sub. But in the 00s the big three stood up and dominated most of the times. We also had some awesome openers (GG is **** now). This is the best India have to offer. No amount of blaming the captaincy (which has been poor) or the coach is going to change that fact in this series that number 3 and 4 in the batting have been abysmal. By any batting standard. So Indian fans should just sit back and grind their teeth. Hope that these players learn from it all and decide to step up in few years to come.

You don't have to look beyond captains monotonous comments after last test to see where exactly the problem lies.

Problem is Dhoni doesn't seem to be hurting enough. I have seen him angrier after meaningless IPL games. He is usually hopping mad if someone plays an irresponsible shot. In tests, he is way too casual about it - "these things happen in cricket" type attitude. Same when regulation catches are repeatedly put down. Just look at Cook's post-match PC after they lost at Lord's. Or even Michael Clarke after his 4-0 drubbing in India. These guys looked badly hurt, they swore to make amends and come back. Dhoni is just waiting to go back to India and make more money. Its shameful.

What I don't get is what on earth Dhoni is hanging onto the test captaincy for? He has already lost 13 away tests, just 3 behind the world record. The next tour is to Aus in Nov and will be lucky not to lose all 4 tests. So say he loses all 4 he will then go down in history as THE WORST OVERSEAS CAPTAIN EVER. Surely you would want to get out before that indignity? Does he not realise that whatever, if any, legacy he leaves behind in test cricket has been tarnished with the huge overseas losses? They are never small unlucky defeats but embarrassing one sided beatings. Him hanging on just makes no sense on any level.

Market value that indian captaincy brings is too high. Even if he has zero interest in test cricket and he clearly knows "worst overseas test captain" tag is waiting for him after australia, that alone is enough for him to continue. Also he clearly knows quitting test captaincy could be end of his overall career as well as some people finds it difficult to continue in team as a normal player after so many years in leadership. One example was nasser hussain.

And people talk about energy. Dhoni was the only batsman in both innings i saw with some intent and energy out there. Pujara keep blocking till he gets out. Kohli has been in **** form since the IPL. Lets be frank, India dont have a good record outside home. Even in places like Sri lanka we have won a series only once. Why did India fail to win a series abroad from 1996 to 2004. When most of our legends were in place? Sachin Laxman Dravid Ganguly Kumble. All were playing for India. ?? Did these guys immediately step up and improve India's record overseas? The answer is no. It took them a while to get to grips with test cricket and we started improving drastically 2004 onwards which carried on till 2011 England series post 2011 world cup.

Its becoz dhoni plays ipl & is filthy rich as compared to the others. Clarke & cook couldn't be less bothered by bbl or other leagues. Clarke doesn't even play odis. Besides who cares about overseas tests anyway ipl is the real deal

Michael Clarke during the 4-0 made a lot of odd statements as well. Cook to be fair i agree. But looking hurt and giving a good PC is not the only metric. What happened to Cook in the ashes?

1.What changed after lords ?We seemed satisfied after a test win overseas it was evident when Dhoni says we are improving after losing from winning positions in last sa and nz tour.We went defensive and tried to protect the lead which in a 5 match series will backfire. 2.:hysterical: Eng have better depth and players to fall back on they have been hammered by every team on the planet recently.England have huge problems with only balance,bell looking good and 2 bowlers its how pathetic our slip fielding and catching has been. 3.Problem is not pankaj been given a game but at 30 more like 32 he is at end of his career so never expected much.Umesh yadav non selection just shows captain and selectors are jokers. 4.Fact is When the captain stays with out accountability it percolates down to the whole team.
