King Tendulkar Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 If top 5 fail you replace top 5 You replace out of form player with inform one you do not start playing 11 batsmen Who said play 11 batsman. Play 6 like every other team does You don't replace 5 batsman, you add to the depth in batting, as replacing all 5 wont help, as by and large this is the best lot we have

South Africa ask Duminy to be spinner so that they can play 4 quicks and u can check others
King Tendulkar Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Which other team does not plays 5 bowlers ? South Africa ask Duminy to be spinner so that they can play 4 quicks and u can check others Windies dominated world cricket with 4 Aussies dominated world cricket with 4, they had best keeper/ bat ever and never batted him 6, yet we have dhoni at 6:giggle: We got to world number one with 4 bowlers Dumminy is just a part time spinner like dhawa/raina. They are playing 6 bats and 4 bowlers
renjith Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Who said play 11 batsman. Play 6 like every other team does You don't replace 5 batsman, you add to the depth in batting, as replacing all 5 wont help, as by and large this is the best lot we have problem is if we play with 4 bowlers we are playing for a draw from first ball and we don;t want that to happen. with 5 bowlers we atleast have a chance of winning if 2 of top 5 clicks.
King Tendulkar Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Look strong teams who are well grooved and used to winning can maybe got 5 bowlers if have decent all rounder But if weak team with flaky batting then 5 batsman is suicidal. Its not that I am not against 5 bowlers, just I am against 5 batsman Yes playing 6 batsman is bit more negative. But guess what, when you are rubbish you have to be more negative to get results. The only way we will win tests overseas at moment is to pile up big scores, create score board pressure and have runs for the bowlers to play with
renjith Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 we have a special case here. ie, ashwin is batting better than any of the #6 specialist batsmen we can put up. but we shoul dplay him at 6. dhoni was dump enough to play him at 8. imo we can consider ashwin as a genueue allrounder who will give 40+ avg in tests at #6 and the 4th bowler can be a spinner or seamer depending on pitch.

Even if he avg 35 at 6 that will be good and can bowl to enable us play 5 bowlers because we do not have great bowlers like Aus. WI, and SA have had who could ran through teams.

There is a possibility that ashwin could be a genuine top 6 bat and allow us to play 5 bowlers in the future. I agree there But with our batting so flaky and the desperate need to put some kind of score on the board, I would use ashwin to strengthen the batting at this point of time with him coming in at 7 Dhoni at 6 is no go!

Solution is to make batting less flaky and not to add more flaky batsmen It's time to find new solid opener who bores us to death...we won't find another sehwag and middle order will get better in future this happens with young teams ...if anything rohit should find form and replace one of ouof form middle order batsman
Old guy Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Windies yes is from the past But aussie domination and india number 1 is not We got bowled out in one session, batting needs to be strengthned Aussie too did that in last decade now even they play Watson for his bowling Or have u forgotten agar and other players they tried? Hendriques ? I can go on
rkt.india Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 Let's stick to present day cricket with flat tracks and cramped schedules I am not interested in what team combination was when my grand pa watched cricket Those teams had great bowlers who could make any team of their era. If they did not have them, who knows, even they might have played with 5 bowlers. They did not need 5 bowlers because 4 were doing the job. Even then, you always need a bowler who can bowl 10-15 overs and give main bowlers a rest. Aus had Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh and then later Symonds who would regularly bowl a few overs here and there.

King Tendulkar Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 When you are rubbish like we are you have to go safety first and put runs on board. Thus 6 batsman When good side can be more adventourous and play 5 bowlers and go positive fashion Also when wickets helpful to bowlers then 4 is all that needed and batting needs helping. When wicket batting friendly can go for 5 bats only and need extra bowler as work load is higher This all changes if have genuine all rounder, aussies have Watson who si genuine top 6 bat, thus his bowling is a bonus. Do we have genuine top 6 batting all rounder? Ashwin very unproven, he is more of a bowling all rounder. I don't want to see us bowled out in a session again

Watson is a reluctant bowler because of the injuries h e keep getting due bowling work load but Clark had sent a clear message that he can only if he is able to bowl. They insist him to bowl whenever he plays. They even played Henriques as an alrounder and 5th bowler.

Yes I posted similar information just now So Aussies who had history of using 4 bowlers now uses 5 ...why should we copy their atg team when they themselves are not doing that ?
rkt.india Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 This all changes if have genuine all rounder, aussies have Watson who si genuine top 6 bat, thus his bowling is a bonus. D No, his bowling is a not bonus for them. He is a reluctant bowler due to injuries but they still insist him to bowl. He does not have a place in he side if he does not bowl. Even Clark sent a clear message to him regarding this, last Ashes, I think.
King Tendulkar Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 And we are back to square one ...sigh .. 5 bowlers is not adventurous it is only combination where we pick 20 wickets without injury Well 3 day loss and being bowled out in one session is hardly a great advert for INDIA to use 5 bowlers with our current batting line up Anyway doesn't matter what combo we use, dhoni will find away to muck it all up You had 5 bowlers on start of day 3 the most crucial period he starts with our 2 worst bowlers:giggle: Too many bowlers will confuse our captain, need to keep it simple for him
