But the balanced history argument is a fail in my opinion because to balance a historical perspective, is to get overly analytical- [b']how do you balance an info-based subject without presenting more and more info ? Which means the only way you can have a truly balanced perspective on history is if you do a masters level rigorous book on it- which beats the whole point of high school education, where history is the least important subject. What is the narrative here?........Evil Majority Sinhalese population oppressing the minority Tamils by snatching their rights.......is there a single mention of how the Tamils had retaliated? Not really......zero mention about the terrorist organization that is the LTTE.......why this selectivity?......why not dedicate two pages to provide at least a timeline of events that provide a balanced and objective view on the entire issue? This is not even our country's history......how would you feel if the roles were reversed?...... I'm not saying that we should turn our history books into 300 style graphic novels.......but if our educators deem it ok to teach our students about the brutality that happened in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 8th grade......then why hold back on important historical events that may have an element of macabre to them? Not sure about yourself......but I like to make up my own mind with regards to history, based on facts......not some person's rose-tinted version of events......

I hope you realize, that you are quoting a book on political science to prove a point about history textbooks.

Btw......what are your thoughts on the whole issue?

Sharma 11th class http://www.nceiindia.com/sugg_read.html These 2 were edited then removed during NDA 1 I think. NCERT also had Romila Thapar's Ancient India in 70s which was removed by Morar Ji Desai's govt. Ancient India, Medieval India, NCERT Textbooks, Delhi, 1966, 1968 sq. http://www.jnu.ac.in/sss/chs/RomilaThapar.pdf Regarding the bold, its a very wide topic. For instance I would pick that in Thapar's and R.S Sharma's books which were taught not long ago, it is mentioned that beef eating was prevalant in Vedic era. Now that is a widely debated topic. You CAN NOT put the view of just one side. At least put the view of the scholars who have debated that it wasn't so.

Shiva was a Dravidian god. the Aryans came from near Caspian sea and Iran border.rig veda was written 400-500 BC.this is all i can recollect.. don't know what they taught in history in CBSE schools. i read my first cbse book in +2 that too science books.no history CBSE books.
