err.... they have been "rested" so that they stay fresh for Aus tour. Its good thinking on selectors part that they're looking beyond pak series. They know Aus tour is OUR best chance to silent selection panel critics.

Will they goto Australia ?
Not sure if they will go to Aus. Maybe 50-50 chances since fast bowler injuries (depending on the type) can take longer to get better. Another issue: Will they be fully fit or carrying niggles in Aus? Will they conk out during the middle of a Test match 2nd Inn? BCCI has done a huge disservice by scheduling these insane# of matches.

http://www.mid-day.com/sports/international/2007/november/167295.htm With the latest injuries to Shantakumaran Sreesanth and Rudra Pratap Singh, India’s fast bowling cupboard looks bare before the all-important tour of Australia next month sresth2511.jpg DOWN AND OUT? S Sreesanth’s injury has put his chances for the Australia tour next month in jeopardy SURESH KK rrudra2511.jpg Rudra Pratap SinghNEW DELHI: The news of Rudra Pratap Singh and Shantakumaran Sreesanth being ruled out of the second Test at Kolkata (Nov 30-Dec 4) could not have come at a worse time for Indian cricket, given that the team is flying off to Australia for a gruelling tour after the Pak series. RP has been hampered by an oblique abdominal strain — an old injury that was aggravated in the recently concluded ODI series and Sreesanth is suffering from a shoulder injury which he picked up in final ODI at Jaipur. Surgery fears? While Sreesanth has been advised surgery on his shoulder, unconfirmed reports suggest that the Kerala paceman is keen to go for ayurvedic treatment instead of surgery, which could effectively rule him out for Australia. There’s no word forthcoming on when Singh would be fit. With only Munaf Patel, who made a comeback in this Test, but is prone to injury, and an overworked Zaheer Khan to fall back on, the fast bowling resources look bare when it comes to experience. Chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar had stated recently that five is an ideal number of fast bowlers to take to Australia. But with the latest injuries, there is a good chance that even if both Sreesanth and RP do make it, they will be undercooked because they would be coming back from injury. Irfan Pathan, with his form would be a certainty for the tour Down Under. The others in the fast bowling department are Ishant Sharma (one Test) and Ranadeb Bose (yet to make his Test debut), both of whom made it to the Test squad to England but did not play. With experts believing that Bose lacks the pace for Test cricket, there’s a slim chance he would make the cut for Australia. That just leaves Ajit Agarkar, a veteran of 26 Tests and almost half as many comebacks. Trouble The other paceman is Punjab’s VRV Singh, who played in WI, South Africa and Bangladesh. If either Zaheer or Munaf get injured at this point, then it could mean further trouble for India. The pace attack was shaping up well with the battery of RP, Sreesanth, Zaheer, Munaf, Pathan and Sharma. Alas!

I wud prefer to have Agarkar instaed of these 2 stupids VRV and overrated Sharma... reallys its painful to know tht we dont have enuf fast bowlers..
Overrated is still a lenient term that u have used for Sharma. that guy has nothing in his armory... he cant even bloody swing a NEW BALL.

we are facked. RPS still has a chance, but if SS has surgery, he will either be in rehab, or totally out of sorts by the time we go to Aus. Pathan needs to go to Aus if Sree doesn't go. Munaf will probably be more effective in Aus, and hopefully will get better with match practice. He should play all 3 tests (and Zaheer should be rested for the Bangalore test). For Calcutta we have -- Zaheer, Munaf, Bhajji, Kumble. For Bangalore, we should have Harbhajan, Kumble, Pathan, Munaf and maybe even Murali Kartik/Chawla...
