Guest Hiten.
Don't you guys get concerned over Uthappa's slogging ? Doesn't he go the afridi way which is "brainless slogging" ? People talk about his aggressiveness but this guy will play inn of only 30-40 ball max which is helpful in only certain cases. For instance take an example of the on going game between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka >>LINK<<. Karnataka requires 400 odd to chase it, One day remaining. Robin came out as an opener, and perished with a strike rate of 115 in Second Inn. To add more misery to my concern over him, he didn't perform in the 1st inn either. I really pray that this guy learns his lessons as fast as possible, because Suresh Raina will be back in contention for the middle order spot in ODI's sooner or later due to his sublime run form in Ranji series. fineleg
RU will not make the Test squad. His technique and temperament wont work for Tests. He with an aggressive S/R will be a #6 or 7 bat in ODIs Link to comment
The Outsider
His FC average in the low 30s tells me all I want to know about his ability to play the longer version of the game with any success. Link to comment
Sachinism
agree with you totally mate, he needs to use controlled agression. too often he gets out too early, yeh its entertaining and everything, but he really needs to look at the situation and apply himself Link to comment
Anakin
Even in ODIs, he's only good for #6 or later position, he has no technique or temperament to play top of the order. Link to comment
Bumper
He is a good power hitter in ODIs & a handy 20-20 player, not even an innings builder, forget about Tests. Link to comment
bharat297
Yea I dont see him as a Test player unless he can turn around him temperament. Link to comment
praveenj
thats a nice call from a suspectable poster... Dravid says: odi specialist Robin Uthappa was already tried at the top order slots where he couldn't stay longer as well. You saw how Sachin negated Brett Lee at the top while letting others play safe. He started playing free sooner afterwards. If Robin could not help slogging, any position after Dhoni should be good enough... Link to comment
Predator_05
I really don't rate him that highly. He is decent #7 for the ODI team AT BEST but that isn't going to guarantee a long career. He will "fail" more often than he actually scores runs - like in this Pakistan series, when he didn't get enough time to score big and had to throw his wicket away in the attempt to hit boundaries. More importantly, he can't play off the backfoot at all, and that flaw by itself immediately rules him out as a future test batsman. Link to comment

I really suspect this issue... Link to comment
Predator_05
Kaif and Raina were far better batsmen. You will definitely see more of Raina in the future - the way he is slaughtering bowlers in the Ranji, it's only a matter of time before he returns. Link to comment
