You can write in normal letters - I could read, you know :) In order to convert, in some states it requires prior permission of the District Magistrate. Now, of course the natural argument is to say it is to prevent conversions (and unlike what some would say is not necessarily restricted to any particular religion). However, what is often conveniently overlooked is that religion is my personal business and the state has no right to grant permission and should neither require an information. In case the state is concerned about fraudulent conversions, it is their prerogative to come up with a method that doesn't violate civil liberties. So yes, the apostasy laws in India are not full retard but there is an existence of an apostasy law in some form nonetheless. You and I shouldn't require "prior permission" from anyone to convert to a religion (sex, caste, creed etc.) of our choice.

Applying western standards on Indian society does not work. Remember this is a country where taking and giving dowry is illegal. In an ideal society (with full civil liberties) it is no business of the state whether dowry is taken or given. Similarly, in India abortion, sex determination, and even sex selective conception (which are private affairs) are strictly regulated, if not illegal. And in any case, our religion is (unfortunately) the business of the government because we are governed by different civil laws based on our religion (so much for secularism).

I can post a law of at least one state where the law itself states that it is prior permission from DM and not prior information. I really liked the discussion with you, much much more mature. :)

Please post the law which requires the person undergoing the conversion himself or herself to obtain prior permission of the DM.

Here are some excerpts from Class V science textbooks in Karnataka which talks about test tube babies in ancient India. :facepalm: I could post more examples of other states but here's my point - when people in power endorse cross species organ transplant during Vedic eras and stem cells in Ramayanas soon you'd see similar texts coming from our "glorious past". Just browse recent news and it is already happening - we can create a separate thread and discuss on this.
