Kalia_Test Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Now, we know that BCCI, along with CA and ECB initiated the long overdue crackdown on chuckers who were bringing disrepute to the gentleman's game. It needed steely resolve and absolute authority to take this brave decision and kudos to BCCI for this :two_thumbs_up: However, this thread is about the process as I understand... 1. Umpires 'report' a player for suspected chucking noting down which deliveries looked suspicious. 2. The respective board is informed of this. 3. The player needs to get tested in one of the ICC-accredited testing centres ( currently 3 AFAIK - Brisbane, Loborough and Chennai ) within certain number of days. The player can continue bowling till results are out. 4. In the above testing, the bowler should use the same action that he used to bowl the suspicious deliveries 5. If the bowler clears the test, no issues but if he fails, he needs to remodel his action and undergo testing...Correct me if I am wrong but in this test, he need not bowl the same deliveries he was reported for as it is a remodeled action and the bowler may not have that delivery in his armory with the new action...for example - a doosra. The bowler can bowl some simple straight balls or off-breaks and clear the test. Now, coming to the main part :- With the world cup so near, it is possible that some of these chuckers like Ajmal, Hafeez, Narine will go for some simple remodelled action and clear the test. They can be 'rested' till world cup and resort to chucking with the old action in WC matches. If, as per process, they are given some days again to be tested and can continue to bowl till that time, it is a serious injustice to the opposition. My questions are :- 1. In case of 5 above, does ICC make a note of the remodeled action and the kind of deliveries that the bowler is able to bowl and pass on that info to the WC umpires? 2. More importantly, are umpires still allowed to no ball the bowler in the match for chucking ( as opposed to reporting and getting into the process again)? I feel that the umpires should have the authority to no ball the bowler atleast in WC matches as there is a lot at stake. Imagine a bowler like Ajmal chucking away merrily in WC and retiring immediately. It will be a mockery. Thoughts?

Stuge Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 chuckmal can only chuck his way if he corrects his action which saqlain says ..he is doing good for 70% lol what does 70% means ? you 're not allowed to chuck means ? won;t even bowl a single bowl . That's it . and I'm sure if he is not allowed to chuck he will not be effective at all .
sweetaskandy Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Bowlers actions can deteriorate - meaning they could pass a test and then later get called again. If they tidy it up again - pass again - then that's ok.

If they tidy it up again - pass again - then that's ok. Point is...will opposition have to suffer in a crucial KO match with these chuckers? Can umpires no ball them in the match? If not, there is a serious possibility of teams trying to outdo each other in chucking...every team can field a 36 year old ready to retire 'bowler' who can literally throw every ball
Old guy Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 If they get called again they will be banned for year
sweetaskandy Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 ^ Teams play within the spirit of the game. No one acts in the manner you described.
Kalia_Test Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 If they get called again they will be banned for year I get that Sabby...trust me...I get that... Ajmal is already 37-38 ( add a few yrs for real age )....there is no need for Pak for him after WC...what if he literally throws every ball in an KO match against say Aus? Will umpires still have to note down all his 60 deliveries and report him and he can 'bowl' till finals? What are the checks that ICC has against this scenario?
Kalia_Test Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 ^ Teams play within the spirit of the game. No one acts in the manner you described. Well...the teams that had chuckers play were not exactly playing in the spirit of the game are they? Lets not argue over moralities here... We are talking of practical steps to prevent the scenarios I outlined...
Old guy Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 And trust me no team will try to do it they will get massacred in media as bowler will be reported and will be banned and they would have to not play him in any match before World Cup and just play straight in World Cup ...
Kalia_Test Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 Start calling them no balls :dontknow: This was actually my question as I could not find any authentic source...can umpires actually call the throw as a no ball as soon as it is delivered without all this process of noting the deliveries and reporting after match,etc..

Old guy Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 This was actually my question as I could not find any authentic source...can umpires actually call the throw as a no ball as soon as it is delivered without all this process of noting the deliveries and reporting after match' date='etc..[/quote'] I think they can ...at least did in past but has rule changed ? Do t know but I am sure if they are included everything will be explained...don't think they are naive enough to not have any plan for that At least in ipl marine was banned even without testing but nothing happened during game but then again he was not proved chucker ..
Lord Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Umpires can only report. They can't call as its difficult to make out with naked eye.
Old guy Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I am just thankful that cup is in Australia where these chucker spinners would be useless anyway ...
sweetaskandy Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Well...the teams that had chuckers play were not exactly playing in the spirit of the game are they? Lets not argue over moralities here... We are talking of practical steps to prevent the scenarios I outlined... Until they are tested and found over 15 deg, those guys are not certified chuckers. Once they are - they do not bowl. No one has flouted the rules. You can play guys until they clearly called for chucking after tests. The rest is speculation. And if they clear tests after remodelling, they are clean again. Like I said, actions can fall apart - get worse - but then recover.
Old guy Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 They do not get worse that is bs yes if you are tired to chances are you will chuck more but there is a reason not every bowled in world becomes chucker in 5 years Ajmal chucked but was lucky that earlier methods allowed him to bowl with different action during testing which is not possible now so he got away nothing got worse he was chucker from start but when he got away with it for long time he just stated chucking more and apparently within few months of being reported most of these bowlers are able to get actions correct .. Irony is that their excuse was they chucked because of some accident and their arm was abnormal but all of sudden they can bowl with no problem with arm defect and be within range ?
Stuge Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Right now they are certified chuckers .They will have to pass the test first to play in world cup .Its not going to be easy peasy
AmreekanDesi Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 so what if a bowler gets called DURING the WC. He keeps on playing? because as far as I know you are not barred from bowling until you are tested. Also why doesn't the ICC just testing everyone. I think they should check all bowlers in the 15 man squad of every team.
