Thanks guys, keep it coming getting good info here, like I said we are pretty laid back and from what I have been told India suits if you have a easy going personality.

I would go to Delhi, Himachal, Srinagar, Agra ( UP), Rajasthan, MP, Mumbai, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala. Do New Years in Goa if possible. If time permits, would visit Gangtok in the east, but that will be a big detour. Stay and eat in reputed hotels. If possible join touring groups in different places. For instance for Rajasthan, you can do the palace on wheels. Avoid being and travelling at lonely places late nights.

Come to Assam :icflove:

While shopping, try to bargain whenever you can......especially if you are buying handicrafts .....Indian traders tend to be shrewd with customers........so watch out for that......
I'd suggest you take some locals with you whole shopping. They can do the bargaining for you. But well Don't blame me if that very locals deceives you Try out with a guide or a guy from the travel agency or their likes..

Some Imp Tips 1) Do plan your trips. Do not listen to Enter the Void. He is a nut case. Planning never hurts. 2) Post your plan to get better advice. 3) The guys who mentioned India is filthy, actually lied. India is very filthy. Number of open garbage dumps along the streets, with dogs, cows, crows, vultures and homeless beggars hanging on the side will make a person puke. But do not let that stop you, it is all about adjusting your mind set. 4) Stay in a Min 3-Star hotel. If you need specific advice, stay in Comfort Inns/Quality Inns. Pretty good for the price they offer. 4) Always drink bottled water. And eat only cooked food. Don't eat cocconut chutneys or tomato chutneys. They are made up of tap water. Eat and drink to your hearts content Sambar and Rasam. 5) Always return back by 9:00 PM. There is nothing to do in India after 9:00, not on the streets. 6) Never visit road-side bars. For whatever reason, and this bothers me a lot, road-side bars are still considered male fiefdoms. If you take a female in there they all stare at you as if you have committed a sin. Mumbai is an exception, possibly Bangalore. Go back to your hotel, and most hotels have bars, just drink and enjoy as much as you can. 7) And last but not the least, do not hack a cow, just because it is roaming on the street. That will get you into trouble. Finding beef products will be quite difficult, and the places they are available, I will not try, just because quality of Beef will probably be Yucky !
