At Eden, India has the statistical edge INDIATIMES CRICKET / Tarun Sharda & Hijam Raju Few grounds in India have been as lucky as Eden Garden in Kolkata for Indian Test teams in recent past. In the last five Test matches India played here, India has won three of them and lost only once. In these five matches India managed to beat top teams viz. Australia, South Africa and Pakistan. Overall, India has played 34 Test matches at Eden Garden out of which India won eight and lost eight matches. But against Pakistan, India has a mixed result winning and losing one match each out of six matches played. Eden Garden has proved to be a favourite hunting ground for many of the current Indian players. And the 2nd Test against Pakistan starting on Friday has all the possibility of history being rewritten. Indian batsmen have scored tons and bowlers have followed them well by taking wickets bagful. Scoring by tons In 2001, VVS Laxman's 281 against Australia is one of the most exhilarating Test win by the Indian team. It is the highest individual score at Eden Gardens. He also has the best record among the Indian batsmen in Kolkata, scoring 786 runs in seven Tests at an impressive average of 71.45 which includes two tons and three half centuries. His second century came against West Indies in October 2002 but the match ended in a draw. Rahul Dravid also had a fantastic outing in the last Test played here scoring two centuries in both innings against Pakistan which helped India to win the match by 195 runs. Overall, he has scored 785 runs in seven matches in Eden at a healthy average of 65.41 with three centuries and two fifty. His centuries came against Australia and Pakistan. Sachin Tendulkar has played 8 matches and scored 555 runs at an average of 42.69 which include one century and four half centuries. His performances at the Eden are a notch lower than his career average of 54.93 but India managed to win five Test matches in his presence. His best score at Eden is 176 runs which he slammed against West Indies. Sourav Ganguly has played 7 matches in his den but managed to gather only 292 runs at 24.33 and with only one half-century. He still has to slam a ton on his home ground and this might be his last chance to do so. The home crowd will surely motivate their beloved 'Dada' to erase the past record with a magnificent new one. The deadly duo After an impressive performance of Indian spin duo taking 10 wickets at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi, Kumble and Harbhajan are ready to rock Eden Garden. Eden Garden is one of their favorite hunting grounds. Pakistani batsmen have to face the music of Kumble and Harbhajan as they both have taken 68 wickets in 12 Test matches at Eden together. Indian skipper Anil Kumble has taken 35 Test wickets in seven matches at an average of 29.65 with his best performance of 10/161 against Pakistan. He has scalped five wickets twice here. Kumble also made 194 runs at an average of 27.71 which is better than the average of Ganguly. His highest score 88 against South Africa is also better than that of Ganguly's 65. So Kumble, the batsman can also be handy at Eden. The 'Turbanator' Harbhajan Singh is India's most successful off-spin bowler. He has the best record among India's bowlers in Eden. Harbhajan has taken 33 wickets from five Tests at Eden at an impressive average of 20.87 with his best performance of 13/196 against Australia in 2001. He has also taken five wickets for four times in his five Test matches here, a more than impressive figure for a bowler. So, if we were to go by the previous records and statistics at the Eden Garden, India should have a field day in their second Test against Pakistan. But you never know in a game of cricket.

Until the test against Pak in 99, Azhar's lowest score at Eden was 52 IIRC. He played two of the most incredible innings ever at Eden in the same test with an injured elbow. 109(77) and 52(55) against RSA in 1997. 5 4s in an over from that 109 knock: _cHk8iJus-o
Brilliant, sheer brilliance, oh my fantastic! The last 4 beat 3 fielders!
