Ultimate_Game Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Guess what Aaron played even less matches than Milne in Odis. And why mix tests with ODIs. Brett lee an average test bowler but gun odi bowlers. So there are exceptions. So the secret to winning a WC is following NZ (Milne) and Pak (Riaz) selection policies - the two teams who haven't really done much at World cup :giggle:
Insidious Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Was still our best bowler in England. He was the only one who did something of note there. As for taking "tailender" wkts yup we have all seen how Varun "Thomson" Aaron and Umesh "Lillee" yadav knocked over Aussie tail in the recent series :haha: Thiese aussie pitches are super-flat, very similar to the pitches we got 2003-04. Due you know what was Brett-lee stats after that series?Avg=60,Eco=4.72 Even worse than aaron and yadav. Was Brett lee a mediocre bowler?
bowl_out Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 We'll play 2 spinners in every match played in Australia... Need a third spinner as a back up... Don't see Binny playing any match in Aus... He will play against UAE and Zim in New Zealand...

What is your point?
Ultimate_Game Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Yeah the same team(NZ) with their same ideology have beaten us 4-0. What is your point? The same team beat us before the 2003 WC tourney and my point can be drawn from what happened that time. Even pak beat us in a series and we thrashed them in the CT and WT20. Point is bilateral series has no bearing on an ICC tourney and we should stick to what works for us.

In 2003 WC, We reached the final because we had zaheer and Nehra who were 140-145ks. And Finally I don't think we have even a medium pacer in domestic as good as praveen kumar. No one possess such skills even though most of them bowls around 120 ks. That overhyped trundler sandeep sharma was bowling at @115 ks against Gujrat, with no real Zip. surely Aaron and yadav are much better than this

Not surprisingly the stats say the same but alas it's "speed gun" at the nets which counts, and not the performance in the middle.
MK55 Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 This has now become ludicrous if a bowler like Sandeep Sharma is considered superior over Yadav/Aaron

Ultimate_Game Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Didnt pak get into semi final in 2011 WC' date='in that match riaz took 5 wkt haul[/quote'] Wasn't that the only thing he has done in his career? If you want to keep players on the basis of a once every 4 years performance a la Riaz or Afridi that's fine by me but I would prefer to have higher standards.
SELVAM Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I am sick of these faaaast boiler lovers. No need to denigrate our medium pacers.Pravinkumar,balaji,r.p singh, irfan pathan all r trunlers but they won us test matces and other important serieses in last decade (propably our most successful period in our cricket history ) without them would have been even worse. On topic aaron will not be missed in world cup. We all saw how he bowled in asiacup. He was taken to cleaners by even bangla batsmen

Its well known medium pacers dont do that well in australia since the ball doesnt swing much over there.Look what happened to bhuvi in sydney test.
Ultimate_Game Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 This has now become ludicrous if a bowler like Sandeep Sharma is considered superior over Yadav/Aaron Even more ludicrous is the notion of a bowler being "better" without any performances to speak of. Aaron averages 37 in domestic cricket compared to Sandeep Sharma's 22 and aaron is supposedly a "better" bowler. Maybe a "better" bowler in your definition is the bowler who can hurl a cricket ball with more velocity in nets without any control over line & length. Or maybe you are confusing bowling averages with batting averages where 37 is supposed to be better than 22.

It's the performance and stats that should be the factor in selection and nothing else. Yes take a punt on a faster bowlr if the averages are in the same ballpark such as 25 compared to 22 but picking a pacer averaging 37 over someone averaging 22 with the ball? That's crazy and we saw the results in away Tests over the last year.

Beyond all statistics there is something called common sense that is likely to take precedence in my case and I'm sure many other people who follow cricket. Former players like Damien Flemming, Warne also support his view. I see Yadav/Aaron as bowlers who can be our strike bowlers with far greater potential.
Ultimate_Game Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Its well known medium pacers dont do that well in australia since the ball doesnt swing much over there.Look what happened to bhuvi in sydney test. Well Kapil Dev succeeded in Aus in 92 when he had lost most of his pace. And so did PK in 2008, Irfan Pathan and RP Singh in 2003-04 and 2007. It's only our medium pacers who have done well and the reason for the same was they bowled with control and put pressure on batsmen. Wkts come when you put batsmen under pressure and both Aaron & Umesh are incapable of doing so.

Sandeep Sharma was our best bowler in Aus in u-19 WC and he has continued to perform well in FC cricket averaging 22. He has performed at every level he has played and deserves a step up to the next level, unlike Aaron who still average 37 in FC or Umesh who's 27 and hasn't shown any progress in 4 years.

In FC cricket many average pace bowlers are doing well nowadays, most pitches have 4 mm grass on them.He became sandeep marshall sharma.

India only has 1 more world trophy. And up till the champions trophy in 2013 Pakistan had made it to the semi-final in like 6 consecutive ICC tournaments, more than any team.
