bulbul Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I, Shirin Dalvi, begin with an apology for having printed the title cover of Charlie Hebdo. It was a mistake and I had no intention to hurt the feelings of my community. Like any other Muslim, I deeply respect Prophet Mohammed - sallallahu alahi wa sallam - Peace be upon Him… … We juxtaposed it with news of the Pope's statement where he criticized the Prophet cartoons and said freedom of expression was not absolute and religious beliefs should not be mocked in the name of this freedom. She meant the cartoons as a topical illustration to the Pope’s statement not as commentary on their own. In Dalvi’s case that includes: * Being booked and arrested for “outraging religious feelings†with “malicious intent†under Section 295A of the IPC. * The loss of her job. * Her paper shutting down meaning others lost their jobs as well. * Going underground and living away from home. * Some Urdu papers alleging she is a pawn of the RSS women’s wing. * Staying away from Muslim majority neighbourhoods. * Being unable to meet her children. * Her children unable to attend college. * Threatening messages on Whatsapp warning “maafi nahin milegi†(no forgiveness is possible). * Having to wear a burqa for the first time in her life. * Battling four FIRs. Some media reports say six. http://www.firstpost.com/india/je-suis-shirin-dalvi-anyone-harassment-urdu-editor-proves-hypocrisy-2080271.html

Texan Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I meant secular ICFers. Yes it is. Stupid move.
Desi Cartman Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Pls define secular? Let me know if I qualify so then I'll make my token protest on icf.
CSK Fan Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 How is this hypocrisy? The number of people in India who believe prophets and Gods should be mocked are in the minority. And you know. Did you believe India was some beacon of freedom of expression? We are one of the most censored country in the world Hypocrites would be people like OP, hardliners in every thought they have, yet will condemn the same thinking from the other side when it is the exact same viewpoint But I love the fact that EVERY thread from the same guys have the same people using these words like "Secular", p-sec etc, as if using these words will augment their extremely shallow points. Diga and Bulbul are so alike in this, reminds me of the concept of alter-egos. Just like Stephen King and Richard Bachman.

As usual sidestep specific subjects and attack posters :icflove:
hhunaeh Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Threatning people and bullying people is obviously reprehensible and people doing so should be jailed, that is obvious to everyone except a few here, but if you want a look at hypocrisy, especially from the chaddi folk on icf , look at the reasoning given in this thread and contrast it with what they were blabbering here http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=321483

bulbul Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 On topic, some one's career itself is getting destroyed here because she is from small regional paper while no one touches powerful English media.

What happenened to " imagine how you should have posted if subject is opposite". Taking a break from it for now?? Nothing more you want from the psecs?
Texan Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 It is interesting to see how the pattern evolves. In a thread where some apparent "Hindutva" folks were supposedly protesting a book, they come, they bash the "Hindutva" folks, call them demeaning names, etc. In a thread where apparently some Muslim folks raised objections to a Muslim portrayal, they come, post a line of protest (one even mentions it as "token protest"), switch the topic to Hindutva, bash the "Hindutva" folks, call them demeaning names, etc. :hmmm:

Plus, if that movie was allowed to be screened without any censor, depicting gods and beliefs in a manner that could be considered derogatory, and yet gain widespread acceptance, why don't we apply the same logic to this as well?
Precambrian Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 This is the problem with setting precedents. The last government, the censor board, and even a few local governments (eg - UP) expressly endorsed a movie that without any doubt targeted perceived dubious practises and beliefs in mainstream religions. Even the Supreme Court endorsed it, dismissing petitions stating "If you don't want to be offended, don't watch it" despite technically it being a catch 22 kind of an argument. However, when the shoe shifts to the other foot, suddenly the same subset of people, who wholeheartedly endorsed in the case of PK, are showing disagreement, then, that is the hypocrisy here.

Sachin=GOD Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 SOME People don't like Murugan's book so copies are burned, shops closed, court cases filed, and he is threatened leading him to quit writing. SOME People don't like reprinting of the Charlie Hebdo cartoon so the editor of the paper has to quit, the paper has to shut down and the editor has to go underground. SOME people think the AIB Roast is offensive and vulgar so the video is taken down and cases are filed in court. Most of the people in India don't care about these things but there are SOME (in every religion) who have only one thing to do in life - sit around and wait for something that offends them so they can get attention in the name of religion.
