Personal Experience comparing to Windows What major changes? especially concerning graphics and processor capability Is it really worth buying one

Posted

I have a Macbook ...(got for a good deal from my friend , so bought it  ) Graphix is amazin' but not user friendly , specially after using gud ol' Windows  . Prefer using my Winxp notebook for my office work.

Is it really worth buying one
I don't think so , unless u have some spare $$$ ..... :hic:

Stable and fast operating system (it's UNIX underneath), superb hardware, option to use UNIX from command prompt, really good softwares for photography (Aperture), movie editing (Final Cut), song editing (Soundtrack/Logic), animations, the usual Creative Suite, MS Office etc. Hardly anything ever crashes, no threat of viruses, even the smallest installation will need to go through a password prompt, access to free and cool UNIX tools through Fink. Great screen and keyboard interface. Biggest negative is non availability of Winamp to play streams so either you need to go into Windows Dual Boot or run it through the Crossover software which simulates Windows but it slow. No doubt more expensive on the surface for the same configuration but well worth it for the lack of hassles and superb hardware.

Would anyone have first hand experince about video editing I have never used final cut but how quick is it, I have dual core with 2GB RAM at the moment

I have it installed on my system and have messed around with it a bit, found it very intuitive and easy to use. But have hardly done any serious stuff with it and have never done any video editing on Windows so have no basis for a comparison. But it's supposedly the software of choice for a lot of people in professional film making.

Tx, love to try and feel one..guess the 30 day money back is the way to go its mostly for office project
Don't bother getting a Mac unless you're a professional artist or musician. The hardware is well expensive for what it is. If you really must have one get an ibook g4 or imac g5 off ebay. They're powerpc cpus though so they won't run Windows but they'll be cheaper than a new Mac. I've got an ibook g3 but it runs Linux!

macs rule. switched 3 years ago (bought a powerbook g4 after my last BSOD on XP) and haven't looked back. as shwetabh says, only reason i would dualboot is sopcast and some nsv vid codecs that are windows only...otherwise much more stable, happier life. OSX is beautiful, and once you get used to it, xp seems a total drag.

Which NSV codecs are they? VLC Media Player has never had any problem with any nsv stuff I've thrown at it. It's available for practically every OS as well.

I recently bought a macbook....speaking purely from an end user perspective, I have have hardly had to break a sweat to get used to OSX.Its pretty intuitive.I also love the fact that the booting and shutdown is lightning fast compared to my other laptop which runs winxp. I definitely like it that I dont have to intall any drivers when I hook up it up to my printer or digital camera.Nothing's crashed on me so far. Its not that expensive either. I got the macbook for about $1225. I spent a little more on my dell a year and a half back and its inferior in configuration to the mac.

Thinking about moving to mac. All depends on their new line which will be launched soon.. next week??? What are the major advantages of a macbook pro vs a macbook, other than a dedicated graphics card
