[b']Warner, Maxwell, Finch, Faulkner are hitters but sensible ones. Fixed.. . They have full of sloggers but some good sloggers.. i was counting on loss of form from Smith and lack of game time from Clarke.. Smith got some runs so he is back in form.. and lets see how is clarke goes about his game. Clarke is a also a good captain.. should have stayed out for injury. :--D

Yeah Warner has really tamed his game down, he's become a very good defender over the last year, he really values his wkt now. Finch will always be hit and miss, but if he gets to 30 look out, the walking man ass will wreck you. Smith and Clarke are there to provide composure, ideally they're there to support the hitters, it's their job to bat the innings out. Maxwell, well we all know what he brings to the table, but I feel no5 isn't his spot if our top order collapses, if we were 3 for not many I'd prefer Haddin to bat at 5, even Johnson, Johnson can bat if he's given time to get his eye in, hitting from the get go isn't his caper.

MCGGG Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 the question the Australian selectors will be asking themselves is are they a genuine batsman short, with Clarke bowling again do we really need Marsh in the side, I reckon they'll seriously consider playing either Bailey or Watson at 5.

They aren't born amazing players though, Warner for instance works his absolute ass off in every aspect of the game, he's up at 5am every morning for a run, has a strict diet, and he's worked on his batting weaknesses, he isn't naturally talented like a Lara or Tendulker, he's had to work for it. I think the key to Australia's success over the years is discipline (Warne and Symonds aside, but they knew what had to be done), to stay in the Australian team they have to be at the top of their game, if they aren't theres 5 blokes waiting for their spot. I also think the Australian policy of not selecting young players has helped too, especially batsmen, most Aussie batsmen don't get a gig in the national side until their 25.

I suppose that could be said for South Africa and NZ too. Which is why they might consider Bailey or Watson at 5 instead of an allrounder now Clarkes bowling again.

In fact if Clarke was fit before the tournament (as they planned), Bailey wouldn't have even been in the squad- Shaun Marsh would have. Clarke's bowling is no more than a 2-3 over change up. Just saves us having to bowl Maxwell for 10. I'd rather take 7 from Maxwell and 3 from Clarke.

This will change in the next few years, we have some out and out elite bats coming through. The best one is making his Shield debut next game from all reports. NSW have applied for special consideration to play him.

Can keep but he hates doing it. He might keep in limited overs cricket but I doubt he could bat 3 in test cricket and keep. Not going to happen.

They have been told to not have him keep. Australia see him as a prime asset as a batsman. Obviously he can keep, but there is a reason they went with Doolan/any other hack at 3. They see this bloke as the long term 3. In fact NSW applied for special consideration last season to play him as a 17 year old (refused). Currently there is a rule stating that a batsman must be 18 years by the beginning of the season. Doran's birthday was after that from memory.

The match Maxwell made that hundred in Canberra, Doran made 40-50 odd (forget the actual score). Just batted with real composure. Another left hander though- jeez we have a lot of them!
