Sid Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Enough matches have happened to gauge where all the team stands.Some predictions time. Yes both Aussiers and Saffers have lost a match but these two teams with their batting might and belligerence on these flat pattas give them huge advantage.Aussies also have a brilliant bowling (I think better than Saffers though Tahir is a big plus for them),so they are slightly ahead of SA. Kiwis looking a brilliant all round side,terrific bowling attack,but batting looks a bit on the thinner side vis-a-vis SA and Aus. And then there are all other sides with their myriad positives and negatives. So after looking at matches and conditions so far I predict Aus vs SA final,though NZ might be there as well in lieu of either :--D Pls provide reviews of the teams so far and potential finalists as well in this thread B-> P.S: I didnt take into account their clash before finals ,are Aus v SA ,Aus vs NZ or NZ V SA possible before finals ? :hmmm:
veer Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 SA is a wounded team. The game against India really hurt them so bad that they want to destroy everyone now. But they really look weak on the bowling side.

Ram Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 My list of favorites to win this tournament – 1. Australia 2. South Africa 3. NZ 4. Sri Lanka 5. India 6. West Indies 7. Pakistan Rest is irrelevant and have ZERO chance. If I had to pick one team, it would be Australia. Their batting failed spectacularly against NZ, but their ferocious defence of a sub-par total was incredibly impressive. They probably have the best batting line-up (Brad Haddin at 8? Are you kidding me), one of the better bowling line-ups and as usual, a terrific fielding unit. South Africa probably has a better bowling line-up that Aus, but in ODIs, you always lean towards the team with the better batting unit. Not sold entirely NZ top 5 in the batting department, but they have enough nuclear weapons that can detonate on a given day and incinerate the opposition. India’s performance has been misleadingly deceptive. Our pacers have performed at levels well beyond what their capabilities and previous record suggests and I am still yet to find one Indian batsmen that I can point to and say ‘This guy is in murderous form..’ West Indies is simply not good enough on a consistent basis to win 3 consecutive games against other top flight sides. Pakistan is a total mess. Their morale has been hammered with all the attacks emanating from home and their dressing room is in doldrums with the recent moin khan gambling episode. Will make the quarters at the most.

They are going to play QF and SF in NZ only..Only final will be played in Australia. AUSTRALIA and NEW ZEALAND play their QF matches in their home country. We made 285 in tri-angular when our batters were not in form.. Johnson wasnt there though. Cummins and Johnson can be dealt with. They are fast but lacks accuracy.. Problem is Starc who is in crazy form. Here are potential games for us.. vs Eng at MCG vs Aus at SCG vs NZ at MCG

Their strength is their pace attack. Our only relative strength is our batting. What do you think they will do? I would not back the Indian batsmen to chase down even 230 against the aussie attack on a pitch where there’s even a semblance of pace and bounce.

Bud, did you watch the previous tri-series b/w India, Eng and Aus? We lost twice – Let me repeat that, TWICE – to the bleeping Poms! Do you know why? The pitches were not nearly as batting friendly as the ones we are seeing in the WC so far.. James Anderson, who cannot buy a wicket to save his life in this tournament, destroyed us with swing during one of the games.. So my larger point stands - We will only as far as our batting takes us in this tournament and our batting is not at its peak of forms to sustain success even when the pitches are flat. When there is assistance for seamers in the pitch, we have zero chance of upstaging the premier contenders.
veer Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 ^ i know what you are saying and i was on the same boat. But seems like they didnt take triangular seriously and got much better in WC games. Our bowling is definitely clicking more now. If we gonna get seamers pitch then it'll help our seam bowlers as well. Shami and Yadav are bowling with serious pace. On the other hand there is a possibility that we are fooling ourselves on basis of just SA game. Pak game is not even worth mentioning cuz they are trying to find new lows day by day. SA made key mistakes in field and then while batting. As a result, we won by a long margin and could be that we are just pretending to be world beater. We are not going to get even a half descent bowling attack until QF now. All in all.. lets see how it goes.

keith Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I just don't see why everyone rates Australia's batsmen. They have 2 genuine batsmen and a lineup of sloggers. Every time they come up against an attack that knows how to take wickets in the middle overs they will fail.

I suppose that could be said for South Africa and NZ too.
