jacky007
India suffered twin jolts ahead of the third Test with Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni being doubtful starters due to injuries. "Sachin aggravated a mild knee problem from the ODI series while fielding in the Kolkata Test, " Anil Kumble said. "A specialist opinion was sought immediately on arrival in Bangalore and upon advice, an injection was administered. His condition continues to improve but if he fails to recover by tomorrow morning, we feel its wise to call a backup and have called Gautham Gambhir. "Dhoni had a ankle injury in the one-day series but he had continued to play after getting his ankle strapped up. We were initially thinking of resting him for this game but after this new development about Sachin we still aren't sure at this point in time. A decision on him will be taken tomorrow morning. It is learnt that Dhoni needs seven days to get 100% fit. "It's not that he can't play with strapping," Kumble added, "But it's important for us to look ahead as lots of cricket is coming up." Yuvraj Singh may get a chance to play in the Test match. Things would be clearer on the morning of the Test match. source : cricinfo Link to comment

jacky007
thats sucks..anyway lets see how ghambir performance if he gets the chance... as well as yuvi ... they both gotta perform well if given a chance and make their head count in test squard as well (only if the rain allows the match to proceed) Link to comment
Chandan
This had to happen. Players playing 3 ODIs at Belfast, then two tour games and three tests in July-Aug, then 7 ODIs without being rested in even one, then 12 ODIs, and now two tests vs Pak--our selectors are absolute duds and so are the players. Could they not have opted out? Sachin had said before the start of the season that he would not be playing in all the ODIs, then what happened? This is just unbelievable! Link to comment

fineleg
Will Tendulkar be fit for Australia or will this "niggle" carry along there? This sort of carrying on longer than expected has happened before. Link to comment
King
This is one reason why I don't quite want to see Sachin turning up for every ODI possible. When are the players and the administrators come to know the ODIs are pretty much a past thing and not many rejoice the ODI series wins anymore. I think Tendulkar shouldn't really be putting his body on line playing non stop ODIs. Well one's loss is someone else's gain. I hope Yuvi and Gambhir stand up to the task and make it count. Ram
What th !! No Sachin is a MASSIVE blow for India. With an already depleted bowling attack, if we now lose two batsman who played two of the most vital innings in our victory against Pak in the first, we might as well kiss our chances goodbye in the third test. With an already depleted bowling attack' date=' if we now lose two batsman who played two of the most vital innings in our victory against Pak in the first, we might as well kiss our chances goodbye in the third test.[/quote'] Sachin and Dhoni are big players for sure. It's hard to fill in for these two players but am glad this happened during a test series at home and not overseas. I think Yuvi and Gambhir can do justice. Two left handed batting options aren't too bad. The constant availability of left and right batting combination can work for India I think. Hopefully this will ensure Sachin only plays few important ODIs and not every thing that comes his way. I think Indian batting is still in good hands despite the non availability of the two stars Tendulkar and Dhoni. Link to comment

Hopefully he'll opt out of the entire triseries in Australia to be fit to face SA at home. I just don't want him to miss a single test. Link to comment
King
BTW why not give Sehwag a call up and see how he goes? India has nothing to lose playing Sehwag. They can play Karthik at no.7 if Sehwag can be the opener. I know it's too late and won't happen but they could have used Sehwag in this test match. Link to comment
Ram
Even two Yuvrajs and 3 Gambhirs couldnt replace Sachin and Dhoni in the line-up. I am hoping desperately he plays, coz we really need to atleast draw the third test. And, what in the world is happening to our team !! ? First it was Sreesanth and RP Singh, then it was Zaheer and Munaf, now it is Sachin and Dhoni. We couldnt possibly go into the Aus tour with almost every member carrying some niggle or the other. It seems like almost as if the divine powers are conspiring against us, screwing up our chances in Aus. Link to comment

This is an ideal opportunity to see how Sehwag goes, if Dhoni is ruled out. Link to comment
maggot_brain
What the hell is going on? This is worse than the Pakistanis at Kolkatta. Why are we getting so many injuries to KEY players? Non-stop cricket that's why. Why the hell do we need 7-match ODI series. The BCCI are just greed ba$tards that's why. Link to comment

No Chandan, CWB tri-seies is also a prestgious tourney..so Sachin has to play...may be he'll skip the tour game and the only 20-20 and one or two not so important mtches of triseries Link to comment
