I disagree totally on one count. Umpiring decisions can never terminate/adversely affect a player's career. We havent had ONE player, past or current, come out and say that poor umpiring cost him dearly in his career.

Zulqarnain Haider would have been dismissed for a king pair on debut and most likely have been consigned to history books forever today, but for the referral system. Currently batting on 73, the highest score by a Pakistani on this tour and has got a fair chance of making a career for himself thanks to technology and Hawk Eye.

On another note, I just read that Umar Akmal was given out after a review which showed the ball clipping the bails! Not sure what the sequence of events was. But if Hawkeye - which is basically a stump magnet for the cricket ball - shows the ball clipping the bails, there is a lot of probability that it was going above.

For my part - I am saying no, I am a mere mortal. Their workings are way beyond me :). Seriously though, Zulqarnain would not have been dropped like a hot coal after just this one game. He did well behind the wicket and in general added a bit of zip and zest to the team as opposed to the glum faced Kamran Akmal. At the very least he would have got another game.

Was watching highlights of Dada's debut 100 at Lord's. There was a loud shout for LBW on the very first ball Dada faced which was not given by the umpire. The ball from Dominic Cork pitched on off stump and curved into Ganguly, hitting him below the knee roll and missed the bat by a mile (whereas dada lifted his bat to let the umpire(Darrel Hair) know that he had hit it. That was a plumb LBW, the ball would have taken the middle stump out. With the UDRS in use, one of the all time fairy tale debuts would never have happened!!
