Secondly assuming that ZEE offered those 5mnUSD/yr contracts to Aussies,which werent accepted,as Clarke/Warner make similar money now,he will require close to 50-60MN USD to set up just one team.Multiply that with the number of teams plus money to get grounds and possibly upgrade those grounds and other overheads we are staring at initial investments worth 700-800mn USD or even more. Doubt essel group will be forking out that much of their cash for such a risk venture.They didnt even pay 2mn USD pending to Pak players from ICL. Again we are looking at a huge quantum of investment.I will bevery interested to see which LIKE MINDED INVESTOR wants to get their hands dirty here. Because they dont have the resources to outbid STAR.Where ever STAR goes,ZEE is out.Thats why the 4 biggest cricketing content INDIA/AUS/ENG plus ICC belong to STAR. Zee is frustrated and Chandra's old rivalry and bruised ego and bitter battle with Murdoch is the reason for all this.

I was alluding to setting up a franchise model for basketball in India. Basketball's popularity is increasing in India, particularly in urban India. I have a family friend who works for a talent-management firm (forgot the name) that has a partnership with the NBA and he gave me info regarding this around 18 months ago. Basic infrastructure is already there. The sport just needs to start expanding. Targeting even 5% of the total population, initially, would be enough as it would mean around 65-70 million people. Heaven knows that our country needs to diversify its sporting interests. They might not make a whole lot (or any) of revenue initially, but if they get the right people on board like Tim Duncan or Kevin Garnett, superstars nearing the end of their NBA careers, then there will be enough buzz to at least garner interest which could potentially lead to something big.

Let's see. Anyway, in case of sports its not easy unless you have the rights because there is hardly any programming that can be developed - you are almost totally dependent on LIVE sports, especially cricket and football in India.

The channel is in the pipeline.Their target is the IPL rights which will be up for auction in 2 years time.Expect the IPL rights to be sold for unprecedented amount of money.

Reliance bought majority stake in Network 18 last year so Mukesh already owns CNBC-TV18, CNN-IBN,etc. Whenever, Reliance stock is discussed in CNBC-TV18, you get to hear a disclaimer that " Reliance is promoter of NW18 - the owner of this channel" From link Network18 owns TV channels (including CNBC TV18, CNN-IBN, CNN Awaz), websites (firstpost.com, moneycontrol.com), magazines (including the license for Forbes India), entertainment channel (Colors, MTV and Homeshop Entertainment) among other businesses. First thing Mukesh did was kick out Rajdeep Sardesai from CNN-IBN :giggle:

But earlier I had read that both Ambani brothers were set to launch many channels (Anil even launched a few like Big Movies/Big Magic etc). That hasn't happened yet.

KG is getting a Minny role. Indian League will get some really washed up 2nd round pick who played like a seaosn in the NBA

Honestly have no clue about NBA or its stars .But any urban youth interests that is diversifying from cricket is mostly moving towards football .And clubb football is growing in a big way in India in recent times mainly in urban centers. Doubt NBA will get much interest in considering its timing is awful (Early morning) and is mostly american centric sport .

But even then CL doesn't generate much eyeballs in India compared with EPL/La liga becoz its timing .

This means that BCCI Tv rights,IPL rights,CL rights in India all will be up for renewal in 2017-2018.If Ambani or anyone wants they can take away a big slice of live sports in 2018 by bagging these 3 rights. Australia Rights up for renewal next year.
