I know very little about phones, so I am tapping into the collective expertise here. My friend said someone bought an unlocked iPhone 6+ 64 gb for $650. I am seeing $850 on the Apple website. Is there any other way?

I did something like this. I had an att contract and took a new phone and broker the contract. I paid 300 for new phone at sams and 370 for the contract breaking.I dont know if att still offering the contract. But remember you still have to pay for 1 month of service though. It worked for me because I was on contract already.

Go to ATT store and buy one with service, no contract, but you can pay in monthly installments. Once you buy the phone, you can payoff the phone with no penalty (650), and cancel service as there is no contract. You can pay for a few days of service.

Thanks' date=' all! If I did the AT&T thing and canceled it, would the phone be unlocked automatically? If not, will someone in India unlock it?[/quote'] ATT will not have a carrier lock. I will soon find out as I am asking them for unlocking instructions. Last time I had a phone, I asked for unlocking instructions and used it in India with a different SIM card. You can always ask them to unlock once it is paid and still have service and get it unlocked. They all have SIM cards. So, it can be used anywhere in the world if they have a activated SIM cards. Dont know abt VzW ones as the IP4 in Vzw didn't hv SIM cards.

I think ATT phones work fine in India and can be unlocked. I have 2 iPhone 5s from Verizon which dont work in India as they use a combination of GSM and CDMA. I think they use GSM for calls and CDMA for data or the other way around. If anybody has a solution then let me know as I have 2 of these being used a iPods

I have used ATT phones in India. They have GSM quad band and work with different SIM cards. VzW Iphones have an issue. I know only about 4 and 4s. I thought Iphor 5s from vzW could be unlocked. ATT no doubt. Yes, VzW uses GSM/CDMA 3g1x for Voice hence can be used. But, Data was in Ip5 is LTE. It could be used anywhere there is LTE coverage. I have a collegue who used IP5 from VzW in Jamaica with a different SIM card. will find out more. But India mein tho koi tho jugaad hoga. They can unlock any phone.
