This is really sad and unfortunate....RIP (CNN) -- Two graduate students were found shot to death Thursday night in an apartment on the edge of the Louisiana State University campus, a spokeswoman for the school said. Two graduate students were shot to death in this apartment building on the edge of campus. No suspects have been identified in what police are investigating as a double homicide, LSU spokeswoman Kristine Calongne said. The bodies of Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam, both Ph.D. candidates from India, were found inside an apartment of the Edward Gay Complex. The complex is near the LSU band's practice field, Calongne said. Campus police are investigating, along with the Baton Rouge Police Department, she added. Emergency text messages were sent out to students and faculty across the LSU campus late Thursday, but the campus remained open on Friday. People were warned in the text messages to use caution, but not all students received them, the university said in a statement posted Friday on its Web site. LSU is working to resolve the problem "rapidly," the school said.No lockdown of the dormitories was ordered, according to Calongne. The Associated Press reported that Allam's pregnant wife found the bodies and called 911. The victims appear to have been shot in the head during a home invasion robbery. Investigators are looking for three men who were seen leaving the area, the AP reported

The police are calling it a "home invasion." In other words, not a rampage shooting (unlike the VT killings). One can be almost certain that it is not a burglary - these guys were certainly not well-to-do. Many of us know how it is being a grad student in the US. On top of that, if you're married, you're probably barely eking out a living. So, if it was not a random burglary, it was personal. I shudder to think of the possibilities. Did they get in an argument with some thugs earlier about something? Or were the culprits disgruntled students who flunked chemistry lab and targeted the TAs? Damn ...... Regardless - what a sad, sad story. I'm really bummed about this (I was a biochemistry doctoral student a few years ago). Hope they find and finish off the culprits. That will be a small, small consolation for the families.
