amiret Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I believe it is the Oil Marketing Companies that increase or decrease prices of Diesel. What was increased in delhi is the value added Tax . State-owned fuel retailers IOC, Bharat Petroleum Corp (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) revise petrol and diesel prices on 1st and 16th of every month based on average imported cost and rupee-dollar exchange rate in the previous fortnight.

It is still very much in govt control O/W the price of Diesel and petrol should have been increased and decreased with crude prices

Petrol in Delhi will cost Rs 66.90 per litre from tomorrow instead of Rs 66.62 at present. amiret Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 The rate of VAT being charged on petrol is 30.80 per cent in Punjab, 26.80 per cent in Uttar Pradesh, 30 per cent in Rajasthan , 27 per cent in Himachal Pradesh , 31% in MP (as on Jan 2015) and 25 Per cent in Haryana. Kachrawal has betrayed the people of New Delhi by increasing VAT from 20 to 25 % .

Kachrawal has betrayed the people of New Delhi by increasing VAT from 20 to 25 % . A lot of petrol pumps near haryana border are dependent on this they always display "gurgaon se sasta diesel "

But delhi as a major urban centre faces other pressures.....Wages of the workers manning the pumps to renting the real estate is much higher than most of the states you mention. In absolute terms the raise from 20 % VAT made Delhi competitive against some other parts of the NCR Maybe the 500 crore publicity drive can take a back seat....
