Most Pakistani fast bowlers come from Punjab (Pakistan). Indian Punjabis are physically similar to Pakistani Punjabis. Yet Indian Punjab does not produce a lot of fast bowlers. In fact' date=' the better pace bowlers bowlers India has produced have come from elsewhere- Kapil, Srinath, Zaheer etc[/quote'] Pace bowling needs a culture. We are a nation producing batsmen and spinners. That has to change somehow, a genuine pacer has to come out of somewhere. We didn't even have good medium-fast bowlers before Kapil arrived unexpectedly. The likes of Umesh and Aaron have to be protected from overuse and groomed into world class bowlers. Then we will setup a culture that will produce quicks. All this talk about strength, agility and such things don't hold good for a nation of one billion. We have all the ingredients to produce the best in every sphere of life. We need to be able to spot the right talent and provide the environment for making these talents world class. Which is where we are lacking right now and needs to be addressed. Mediocrity is ruling this country....

Amen to that. I don't think it's just culture though. It's more systemic than that imo.
