rohit and kohli both have bated at number 4 position roughly the same number of matches (24-25), one is averaging 33 other is averaging 66. one dude has scored 6 centuries around the globe other has 2 centuries on the same ground in Zimbabwe. atleast compare rohit to some of his contemporaries. even pakis dont start comparing every other bowler to wasim waqar without seeing performance first. heck even kohli who has record miles better then sachin in ODI at same number of matches (or anybody else) should not be compared to him. sachin was lot younger then these two guys when he started playing. age is also a factor. but if you must then let me tell you, both kohli and sachin scored centuary in odi at the age of 21. and so did ponting and inzi who are number 2 & 3 after sachin at leading run scorer in ODI. see any pattern? rohit doesnt go with sachin in ODI.
I don't think anyone is comparing Rohit to Tendulkar and as you said such a comparison is ludicrous. What some folks, including me, are saying is that he needs to be tried in Tests and you can't make a call on him unless he's given a proper run in Tests. You can give another batsman a chance in odis but in Tests it would be a fallacy to not give Rohit his fair shot.

Sachin got first century in odi after 75 matches....give him also some time:winky:
Though it must be noted that Sachin was performing really well in Tests and scoring centuries there

Even in odis he was one of our better batsmen at the time. It was that he was moved up the order in 94 and that's when he started scoring 100s.

When under pressure to score quick he does silly things like drag the ball onto stumps or force a cover drive when its not there. In tests he will have more time and can build his innings without any pressure which he why he needs to be picked ahead of Laxman (or Kohli but that will not happen), otherwise there is no room for him.
