CoA turns down the request of Afghanistan Cricket Board to allow their players play domestic cricket in India

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has declined the plea made by Afghanistan Cricket Board (AC) to allow their players to play in domestic cricket tournament organized by BCCI in India. The request was turned down by Committee of Administrators(CoA) saying that it is not feasible for them to grant permission to the Afghan players to play domestic cricket in India.

“It will not be possible for BCCI to include players from Afghanistan in the domestic matches/tournaments organised by BCCI,” said the CoA.

Earlier, the BCCI had turned down a request from Afghanistan cricket board to conduct Afghanistan Premier League (which was held in Sharjah in 2018) in India because the nation has its own T20 league (IPL) in the summers.

The recently concluded ICC World Cup 2019, was a nightmare for Afganistan team which they would want to forget as soon as possible. Not once they were touted as a stronger side but then again a few upsets were still expected from them. The then Gulabdin Naib-led side came into the World Cup with much promise but finished the showpiece event losing all their nine games. Afghanistan troubled Sri Lanka and West Indies in their match but weren't able to convert it into a win. The match against India was a thriller but Mohammad Shami's hat trick got the better of Afghanistan. The side performed well against Pakistan but lost the match owing to their own carelessness in the field.

After their exit from the quadrennial event, Rashid Khan was appointed as the captain, while Asghar Afghan was made the vice-captain of Aghanistan cricket team across all formats.
