As much as it is a fluke, i as an indian fan would be wary of facing a team like PAK in knock out. I remember in 2019 ODI world cup where pak missed out semis on net run rate. If pak had better net run rate, IND would have played PAK in semis instead of NZ. As much as PAK is a trash team, knock out against PAK is always 50 50. would we be not on our toes if we were to face pak in 2023 ODI semis/final or upcoming 2026 t20 semis/final ? Sayum ayub is an exciting talent, Abrar ( the mistery spinner) was great yesterday. I think, they may get the team combination right going award. Back in the 90's, PAK used to thrash us like how we are thrashing them now. It kinda stayed with me to have soft corner for pak as a team with great pedigree and a mercurial side to it.

From an indian fan: pak won against india in 2017 CT final, 2022 if not for kohlis heroics + no-ball, it was pakistan's match to win in world cup t20, 2021 t20 152/0 pak dominated, 2022 asiacup pak chased 180 odd in t20. An indian win makes us think, its a one sided affair. Imagine, pak turing up on their day. Had saim ayub/fakhar zaman been available, match would have been way closer than it was. I think, indo pak rivarly would be exciting regardless of current form of PAK. Come t20 2026 world cup and lets see , what happens.

Virat Kohli Likely To Miss Ranji Trophy Match Due To Neck Sprain
mikeypbadana86 replied to Number's topic in Cricket Talk
Ricky Ponting after conclusion of test series in Australia suggested kohli to take a break and switch off to come back with freshness and energy. The same thing was done by kohli in 2022 before his come back out of poor slump. -
1992 india did not qualify. 1996 quarter final sidhu scored not sachin. 1996 semis sachin's knock in a losing cause 1999 Its Dada and David who scored in the must win game against SL 2003 ODI semis- Its again gangly 2007 ODI World Cup: india first round exit 2011: sachin scored half century in quarter final as well as semis Record in 6 world cups Kohli 2011 ODI final 35 2015 odi SEMIS --- failed 2019 ODI semis - failed albeit an unlucky dismissal of umpires call 2023 ODI World Cup : century in semis and half century in finals. 2014 t20 Man of the match in semis 2104 t20 worldcp final highest sore 2016 t20 virtual quarter final against AUS and semis against West Indies 2024 t20 final Man of the match where did kohli fail and end up as bilateral bully ? or was it right to say Kohli is bilateral legend????
-
Exactly my point. sachin or Lara or inzi did not score every knock out so did Kohli. That does not mean kohli is a bilateral bully where his records in knock out is exceptional in t20 followed by ODI. I am talking about the work load of intense IPL + T20 on player fitness where sachin did not have to play this. No doubt, sachin player under bowler friendly conditions.
-
Cheap bilateral are defined as Kohli stepping up and performing in 2014 t20 World Cup semis against South Africa, 2014 t20 final against SL, 2016 t20 virtual quarter final against Australia, 2016 t20 semis against West Indies , 2022 t20 high profile world cup match against Pakistan and winning an impossible match, 2024 t20 final against South Africa. Cheap bilaterals are also defined as Kohli contributing a crucial 35 as a budding youngster in 2011 ODI final , match winning 2013 champions trophy final , 2023 ODI semi final with a century and 2023 ODI final with a half century on a difficult/slow wicket. Did sachin win the 1996 semis ? Did he win 1996 quarter final? Did he win 2003 ODI World Cup semifinal ? Did he win 2011 ODI finals? Did he win 2003 finals? No Similar to kohli, he had other contributions like 2011 ODI semifinal, 1996 semifinal in a losing cause, 1998 sharja desert storm against Australia and 2007-2008 VB series final, 1998 independence cup final against PAK etc.

No, I was a fan of Sourav Ganguly/yesteryear pak cricketers like saeed anwar/wasim akram/shoiab akthar/lara. Following cricket since 30 years. Cause there are no other batters left in India so let’s keep regurgitating rubbish. Did kohli/rohit ask KL Rahul to be an eternal failure? Did they ask shubman gill to throw away his wicket? Did they ask suryakumar Yadav to be a t20 only player? Did they ask pant to bat like an idiot in key moments of the matches? Did they ask prithvi shaw to have disciplinary issues ? Did they ask shreyas Ayyar to have shortball weakness?
-
Yes an illiterate who is watching/following Indian cricket since 1995. Sachin for all his greatness was abysmal in ODI World Cup knock outs or tournament knock outs. He was also playing one less formant( t20 + IPL) Wasim akram , the legendary fast bowler never put sachin in all time team of batters/top 10 batters, for the simple reason sachin never imposed himself unlike Lara or Kohli,

Kohli averaging in 60s in ODIS and scoring 100s for fun while chasing in meaningless bilaterals is of no use when all he could do was wilt under pressure and fail every time? A ode century in semis(his 50th century against NZ) and half century in final is wilting under pressure? I am talking about the team combination in 2023 ODI final where rishbad pant/pandya were missed in lower order. It was innings of KL Rahul 66 off 105 balls which led India down in the final. The so called youngster shubmangill threw it away, shreyas an other youngster failed. Its kohli who had score 54 off 63 balls and unlucky to be dismissed on an inside edge. Kohli averaging in 60s in ODIS and scoring 100s for fun while chasing in meaningless bilaterals is of no use when all he could do was wilt under pressure and fail every time ? If kohli has habit of wilted under preassure, he would not have scored in knock out matches in 2014 t20 semis, 2016 t20 semis/virtual quarter final against AUS and 2024 t20 Final against South Africa. Hitman turned up in the final but threw it away after scoring a 6 and 4 against max well. Batting barely had any pressure. And when they were supposed to show up in the final we all saw what they did. The tactical brilliance of David was exposed. He went for a bloody slow/docile pitch to trap Australia which backfired. (Assuming AUS would always bat first in finals)
-
kohli defies age with fitness. He has a mental block against balls outside off stumps. If he corrects it, there is no stopping him. lets wait for champions trophy/ENG series. For international cricketers, it's not the moving ball but the enormity of occasion.(like the 2023 ODI final or 2024 t20 final) Kohli scored well in Aus/ENG earlier, agreed he failed this time. Rohit is on decline though.

you can't have selective criteria. Dhoni never played a single t20 knock out or important innings in world cups yet played 6 t20 world cups. Dhoni the ODI batter was finished in 2013-2014 and lost many matches taking matches deep. If dhoni was dropped or retired, India had plenty of keepers to choose from. Tendulkar should've retired after WC2011 and played on for 2 more years. But sachin did. Kohli will play since he is in similar stature. 2020-2022 covid years was tough for the entire world. For players like kohli who are used to crowd enegergizing and helping the performance go up, it was a bad thing. 2023 was a great year for kohli, the test batter. Do not say 5 years, its 3 years excluding the covid period.
-
what about KL Rahul who never performed in any crucial games? what's pants contribution in 2019 ODI World Cup and 2024 t20 World Cup? should he be dropped from ODI's and t20's? should KL Rahul be dropped from ODI's since he failed in 2023 World Cup and did not do great in 2019 World Cup? How come sachin played for 40 years? how did dhoni play till 38?
-
The ask is to drop Kohli and rohit from tests? ODI's its fine since they performed well ? RO-KO had great 2019 and 2023 ODI world cups. Shikhar dawans injury in 2019 + coupled with rain and postponement of Indias innings to next day with overcast conditions dented india. 2023 pitch doctoring + pant/pandya not being available.

what disturbance had Gambhir even caused to these superstars? Constant rhetoric about "I am responsible for equal opportunity to all players" ? who is he? why is he doing the job of selectors? Dropping the captain midway does not send a good signal to the rest of the team members. who ever new would be in fear of being dropped why does he attend press conference and want to be in centre of things? why is he not easy to work with unlike dravid/John wright/gay christen and following greg chappel method of imposing? what are gamblers credentials vis-a-vis Dravid to correct or alter technique of team members? when india qualified earlier for 2021 WTC and 2023 WTC, what did he do this year? what's some thing historical or new he is doing to alter the course of Indian cricket ?
-
how did they perform well under Dravid and suddenly declined under gambhir? does man management play a role? Indian cricket team is not club/IPL level where gambhir would dictate terms. Commentators have their own agenda/PR groups/bias. voice and opinion of commentators is as good as mine/yours , no real value. Gambhir should do his job silently and let the selectors decide who to play.

To be fair to lolly and fatman, they were exception in 2024 t20 World Cup and 2023 ODI World Cup ( had duo of pant and pandya not been injured/ruledout, 2023 ODI final would have been different) . Gautham Gambhir is a toxic fella who tries to create a system or culture that's not in tune with how Indian society operates. He is dead against a kapil dev/dhoni getting credit for World Cup victories. He has a problem with broad casters creating brands/super stars. he has an agenda, he wants to be a dictator with "my way or high way". Coach should create an atmosphere for players to perform not create chaotic dressing room. The OG of captain cool , Arnjua ranatunga apparently instructed every one in 1996 Srilanka winning team to not disturb/rile up Aravainda De silva during the tournament. All the players pooled money and gifted him a Sony walkman for aravinda to be in zone. Here is a captain who is pampering his super star batter who he thinks is the main player. Arvinda single handedly won the semis and final for SL in 1996. Kohli is a super star so is rohit. Acknowledge and get the best out of them, bloody Gambhir ! Create an environvement for them to succeed but not fail. For those online trolls who are against super star culture, please watch this video .( Arjuna ranatunga is on par with Dhoni in terms of temperament and taking a much inferior srilankan team to worldcup Glory in 1996)

A coach has to be a man manager and create a calm environment in dressing room. Gautham gambhir craves for attention and tries to impose himself on players. He is Indian version of Greg Chappel . He should be kicked out ASAP.
-
As a fan of Ganguly, Ganguly was never comfortable against pace yet scored 10k ODI and had very good test average. what makes you believe Kohli would fail when he is always supreme against pace? You are seeing fag end of kohli . I think peak kohli would have succeeded in previous era. How would sachin have fared with out helmet like gavaskar against Malcom marshall/garner etc. ? Very wrong to compare players from different eras. Players in the past did not have to play three formats(t20/odi/test). The media pressure was negligible . Compare that to current digitial/social media and the amount of preassure Kohli or a rohit would have had to endure.
-
The job of coach is to create a supportive off field environment where the entire team could play as a unit which was visible under Dravids era( I am sure Dravid the wall would have been handy to work on technical flaws of Virat too during the series) . Garry kiristen, Ravi sasthri and Dravid . This is the pedigree of coaches we had. Gambhir is taking the team backwards with aggressive approach, not taking a back seat and with an imposing attitude.
-
@Gollum You can cross verify this. Greg chappel had a terrible coaching/selector stint in CA. Cricket Australia has banned Greg chappel to not be present any where around Australian team. There was no Ganguly mafia but team of Ganguly comprising sehwag, yuvraj, harbajan and zaheer khan. 2003 India were World Cup finalists where as 2011 they won it. Greg Chappells positive things were suresh rain, insisting on fitness culture. I am talking about his poor man-management skills where he troubled a gifted batter like sehwag/rubbed sachin too on the wrong side. No one is against tough decisions, Its Gautham the coach with poor man management skills

It's the mind set of 340 vs 200 . 340 was out of draw where is 200 is with-in-the reach. India was playing for survival hence lost the match.
-
can't we discuss Missed opportunities ? MCG, we had a clear chance, if we grabbed our opportunities.
-
Please quote a match where a team got away with dropping a catch(es) in a crucial test match or ODI knock out or series final etc.
-
Was talking about 4th test where India had aus at 99/6 with Jiaswal dropping crucial catch of labu not just once but 3 times. Aus was set to bundled for 120 and India was set to chase 220 instead of 340. It was india winning with 200-220 chase but was chasing 340 because of Jaiswal. This would have led to 2-1 , India winning in MCG.
