SachDan
India set to rule world cricket There is every chance that the next man in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC’s) hottest seat — that of the chief executive — will be an Indian. Punjab Cricket Association president Inderjit Singh Bindra is the favourite to take over from incumbent Malcolm Speed when the latter calls it a day this June. Speed, who turns 60 this year, has held the post for seven years. He will return to Melbourne and his life as a barrister there. With Board of Control for Cricket in India chief Sharad Pawar slated to take over as ICC president in 2010, Indian dominance of world cricketing affairs will only be underlined. The committee spearheading the search for a new chief executive — ICC interim president Ray Mali, president-elect David Morgan, vice-president Sharad Pawar and Cricket Australia president Creagh O’ Connor — met in Dubai on Monday to discuss the issue. While the ICC has hired Swiss headhunters Egon Zehnder to look for the right person to handle this era of change in cricket — with it becoming more high-profile, a barrage of issues cropping up and the power bloc shifting to South Asia — Bindra’s candidature reportedly has the support of the Afro-Asian bloc, the West Indies and, possibly, Australia. It is learnt that the issue here might be Bindra himself, who is yet to decide on whether he wants to be in the fray. His daughter has started college in Delhi and there are several other adjustments to think about, but a source told HT that if he “decided to go ahead, things could be worked out”. A final decision on the matter will be taken in a meeting slated over February 4 and 5. If Bindra is the preferred nominee, then a decision on his taking over will be made in March. check out hindustantimes.com Link to comment

Ram
do u think the eng and Aus public had such compunctions when they held no les than veto rights for well over a century ? BB, just because we have had non-sensical rules exist for so many years, doesnt mean we have keep doing such things. Your bench-mark for comparison shouldnt be the worst standards set, but the best ones set. You sound like Donny actually, who conveniently points to Dhoni claiming the KP catch, every time we ask him about Clarke. Link to comment
fineleg
Well, hopefully Bindra does take over as CEO. Will wait and see. Link to comment
