Sloane84 Posted June 20, 2017 Author Posted June 20, 2017 Tendu, 270 in a w/c final in Mumbai v the Sri Lankans is a different kettle of fish to chasing 300 in England v Paks in ICC final. Also, Lankans had no Amir. We all know the template to beat the Paks.........why do the opposite at the most crucial hour ? Unbelievable !

Had you batted first I am pretty sure we would have knocked you out under 250. Lets not forget since that first loss to you guys every game was pretty much a knockout. I don't think India lost due to just scoreboard pressure. I think it was the tight line and length of the bowlers. Plus Amir plsying by far his best game of the tournament. ANy day there is no solution to Bad bowling and Bad Batting. It wont matter when you bat, first or second if you don't bat and bowl well you will loose. Thats what happened to India. More so with the Bat. People are needlessly making threads on should India had batted first it would have won. NO its not that. Shaz1 1
Sloane84 Posted June 20, 2017 Author Posted June 20, 2017 Shaz, I would suggest that had India batted first and made 250, your side would have made less.
Sloane84 Posted June 20, 2017 Author Posted June 20, 2017 I see Kumble has resigned. Are any of these other people going to step up and take responsibility ? How about some apologies to the Indian people ? And can any of you wrap your minds around Kohli's comments that " we hold our heads high" and "Pak had earn the win " ? What world is he living in ?
Sloane84 Posted June 20, 2017 Author Posted June 20, 2017 Shaz, You and I know that in an ICC Final - India versus Pakistan - all bets are off and what went before in the particular tournament is largely irrelevant. Had India batted first, we would had the replay of many such ICC games involving these two teams - i.e India post competitive score, Pak collapse in a heap, Pak players afraid to go home :) :)
Sloane84 Posted June 20, 2017 Author Posted June 20, 2017 Shaz, You make a good point. India's middle order was not tested. This is another reason why Kohli should have batted first. You do not want to chance putting your soft middle under major pressure chasing a total to win a final. Better to put runs on the board and have them come in when the opposition is on the back foot. I ask again - where were the critical thinkers in the Indian think tank ?

I disagree other than amir's opening spell Indian batsmen would easily managed a massive total. It was a blunder to choose bowling. If you are Australia, English fan I would have had my reservations about the outcome. But to be honest India lost due to scorecard pressure...

Sloane84 Posted June 20, 2017 Author Posted June 20, 2017 OK, so how will this change Kohli ? I suspect that he will always be choosing to bat first from now on in ODIs, unless there are very compelling reasons not to. Also, I expect a major run flow from his bat in the near future to compensate for this failure as a captain and batsman. Teams to play India over the next year will suffer. However, his disastrous decision to send Pakistan in on Sunday will follow him to the end.

Sri Lanka chased 323 on that same wicket few days back with his pedestrian Batting Line up. There wa sno reason why India with its Gungho batting line up couldn't do it. Tibarn and Tendu_10 2
bones Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 But what if Pakistan had won the toss and elected to bat? Should India have given up on the match after losing the toss? Winning the toss can be an advantage, but on a true wicket where the surface doesn't deteriorate throughout, it shouldn't have that much of an impact. India lost 1 match, albeit a huge match against their chief rivals, but they reached the final. Which means they were 2nd best thing tournament, I think you're going overboard. It's not like India right now are as powerful as the Taylor, Waugh or early Ponting Aus sides.

India actually WON the toss !!! Kohli should have batted ! The name of the game is "SCOREBOARD PRESSURE".....in the biggest of matches ! That's why India made 150 batting second instead of 300 batting first !

Trust me when I say this. If the opening point you're making is about the decision after a toss and not the actual performance during the match, then you really don't know what sport is about. Win or lose the toss, bat first or 2nd, you have to perform. India did not lose this match at the toss, they lost it over the course of the match, where they were soundly beaten in every area. Right...........but why would you give the opposition a 25 yard advantage without a ball bowled ? Anyhow, this is all past now.............hopefully India can meet Pak again in a W/Cup Final and win this time. This may be in another 50 years time.
