Why Has Dhoni Lost His ODI Mojo?: Aakash Chopra

The Dhoni Question

  1. 1. What should we do with Dhoni?

    • Let him continue down the order, and trust him to work it out and eventually bring down his dot ball percentage
    • Drop him from the ODI squad
    • Move him to the middle order, batting at 4, so he possibly can get in by the 25th over, if 2 wickets go down.
    • Move him to the top order, so he has the power play to get in
      0
  2. 2. If Dhoni retires or is dropped, who do you want to see take over the LOI wicket-keeping position?

No. 4 is the worst position for dhoni currently. He should bat at no. 7 with full authority to go full Monty. He hasn't lost his hitting ability. He has lost his brain. No intent to hit is ridiculous. All those talks of playing care free cricket is hogwash. He still cares for his average and want to build innings and play safe at any position in batting order.Care free approach may cause drop in average and people questioning him this time with the support of stats. At least with this approach he gets to maintain average(screw team) for dhoni lobby to say look at his average and he is second highest scorer etc.

Will it happen in practice, even if it is a good idea  ?

Then no. 5 or 6. Because sincerely believe he intentially doesn't try. Anyone can see that. He still scores a few in last over when he finally shows some intent. He hasn't lost his hitting abilities. He is fit and reflexes are good if not superb. By putting him into into position where he has to score at higher strike rate its hitting two targets with one stone:

1) If he comes good. Cheers.

2) If not he would be exposed and speed up his exit.

The only thing dhoni has lost is his strike rotation and finding gaps. He is playing like Rohit Sharma. So at no 4 he can rotate strike good nor get the odd boundary. Hence the reason I feel he shouldn't be at no 4. We should try kedar or Rahul for that position.
