EnterTheVoid Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Simple logic really: If you are an aspiring cricketer, your biggest inspiration would be a cricketer who has done well not some nobel prize winning chemist or engineer. You are able to connect with them more easily because at some stage of their life, they probably went through exactly what you are going through right now.

I can connect more easily to someone whose done well in my field. I agree with the first part of your post. Sachin or any entertainer for that matter: be it from the world of sports or movies cannot inspire me. Yeah, I mean sure he's a great player and all that. Sure I'm proud of Sachin. But in real life, Sachin hitting a few sixes or boundaries has no impact on me at all. Zero inspirational value. I did cry when the entire team gave Sachin that victory lap after winning the WC. Everyone around me and in the rest of the stadium was in tears too. There is that respect for the person. But he just doesn't inspire. Parents, people who had to fight against all odds to make it big in life, God at times.. and greed (obviously) is what truly inspire me. Don't get me wrong: But I find grown ups finding inspiration in a sporting character as very odd. Somehow, its something that I can't digest/accept. People shouldn't be so impressionable after a certain age.

You see him work so hard with so much dedication, that the results sometimes border the unimaginable (like not playing a cover drive out of muscle memory, like seeing the ball and shouting "two" to the nonstriker indicating that they should run 2 runs even before the bat has made contact with the ball) Would it not inspire a person to give that extra yard, that extra drop of sweat, that extra half an hour? When someone who is the best, someone who I look up to is training so hard, so devotedly, I feel that I owe it to my talent to work just as hard as him/harder than what I'm currently working. Offtopic( I dont need a reply to this, it is just a rant) - I have no idea how God can inspire someone? WTF has he/it done? Have you seen him do it? Do you even know he exists? Maybe this is whole new topic only, one beyond the scope of this forum, so lets leave it... If you're interested, PM.
