As for OP , no I dont think so . if he tries to do this consistently he will fail , not that he has any intentions to continue like this anyway now that his spot is secured for another 50 matches .
This was him being desperate to hold on to his spot as the likes of KL have been performing and I think with Prithvi shaw doing well and being from Mumbai , thats another big threat . 

Dhawan will be dropped after 19WC and replaced by Rahul(if he continues to perform well).
Already Rahul is receiving loads of ads and stuff that is aimed at making him popular among the masses.
It is Prithvi Shaw who is Sharma's threat.
Shaw is a kid who already has better temperament and stats than Sharma can ever dream of.
Also, Prithvi tries to make every opportunity he gets his own- he doesn't depend on luck and has that Chalta Hai attitude characteristic of Sharma.

Also, the MoM and MoS thing was more of boosting Rohit's popularity after that Yoyo debacle.

Bowl him a delivery which straightens after pitching from the leg side first up...he is LBW 10/10 times.
