RD has been and still is the backbone of our test side. In ODIs, yes, it has been and still is Sachin.

not quite... the team is not longer a 'batting' side. i.e. a side that was dependent upon its batting to triumph over the opposition. with the rise of players such as yuvraj, sehwag, dhoni etc, it is difficult to pin point a single batsman who acts like the pivot for the team. this is a rather pleasant departure as it improves our chances of winning, as we are no longer vunerable once tendulkar is dimissed.

In this series every1 contributed, it was GG/MSD in the earlier part of the series,then RS, some glimpse of Yuvi were there in middle of the series and in the finals mantle was take by SRT... so its hard to pin point some one. For a change we are seeing a total team contribution after the sad world cup debacle.

he is still an important member but remember India reached finals because of I Sharma , R Sharma , Dhoni and Gambhir as well. In the finals P Kumar was awesome as well .. so yes SRT is still an important player and will always be but I dont think he is the backbone

SRT is a very important contributor, but no way the backbone of this side. SRT was a key factor in the finals, but we got there pretty much without any major contributions from him. Against the world champs, we need more than one player firing at the same time and fortunately it happened. I'd say one of Dhoni or Yuvraj is the backbone of this ODI side. In recent times, we've never done well in ODIs when both of them have failed.
